So after spending first round top ten picks on wide receivers the last 3 years in a row, besides last year, only one pans out.

Mike Martz announced his receiving corps depth chart and Rod Marinelli stamped it with approval. This will pretty much be the lineup unless someone really shows something in the preseaon games or if injuries happen.

1st string- Roy Williams, Cory Bradford
2nd string- Eddie Drummond, Mike Furrey
3rd string- Charles Rogers, Mike Williams

Williams - big, strong, fast and talented receiver that could be an all pro if he can stay healthy.

Bradford - a fast guy that must be a good fit in Martz system, not exactly a household name and only had some average seasons at best. When Bradford is your starting receiver you know where your team stands.

Drummond - primarily a special teams guy returning punts and kicks with limited receiver playing time/experience as a pro.

Furrey - ex-Ram that knows Martz system, decent hands, not bad for a back up.

Rogers - former number two pick in the draft coming in overweight and has had injury after injury and off the field issues. Not impressing anyone in camp thus far either.

Williams - another top ten bust pick. Has already lost half of this years base salary paying off fines. Has been skipping meetings, coming to practice late and overweight. A clubhouse cancer also.

Kitna is Kitna and didn't look any good vs Pittsburgh when Palmer went down. If Cincy thought he had anything left they would have kept him.

Jones a young, talented back, but with a way below average offensive line he could find going to be tough and could run into injury problems.

Team is a mess and would not surprise if they end up right there in the lowest of lower tier teams in the league as the schedule draw looks to be brutal.

Projecting them for about five wins here and maybe 6 tops. The team total regular season wins at pinny is at 6.5 Under +131 with value written all over it IMO. Ford Sr./Jr. treat this franchise as a money making business and couldn't care less about the product on the field as long as it generates positive cash flow. This is what happened with the Arizona Cards owners a few years back and LA Clippers owners in years past.

Recommendation: Detroit Lions Season Wins Under 6.5 +131

being a life long Lions fan this doen't look good.

Nice write-up, one thing is C Rogers did not come in overweight, in fact he weighed only 195 (least he has EVER weighed in his career). In fact weight has never been an issue with him, just heart.

another thing is I have always been that overly optimistic fan in pre-season but other than the coaching changes this team looks really bad and I agree it could be ugly.

Its too bad they could complete a motorcity sweep with best regular season records in MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL.

Si, Rogers is a 210 player ordered to come in at 195. Coaches thought this may help him some and light a fire under his ass, but so far, nothing.

Last effort attempt at trying something, anything, to get this guy back on track and to play up to his potential, but Rogers is not responding.

Bad blood still lingering in the bonus money dispute, lack of drive for greatness and character issues.

lol.. possible the single worst abuse of non-facts ever posted.. lmao...

Rogers has been terrific all camp and he bulked up and is not overweight.. The o-line is avg not in shambles.. and there QB play has been upgraded..

Overall the lions look like a team finally going in the right direction.. Good young runningback who will have a TERRIFIC year in this system... A possible star a WR in Williams and a 3 tool player trying to make amends in ROGERS.... I like the Lions to finish right at .500 this season ready to breakout ion 2007....

What a BS right up by the guy in this thread.. LMAO.... Comments on Rogers and Kitna were so out of whack it is almost too funny to even reply to...

Take the last train to Clarksville,
And I'll meet you at the station.
You can be be there by four thirty,
'Cause I made your reservation.
Don't be slow, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

'Cause I'm leavin' in the morning
And I must see you again
We'll have one more night together
'Til the morning brings my train.
And I must go, oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

Take the last train to Clarksville.
I'll be waiting at the station.
We'll have time for coffee flavored kisses
And a bit of conversation.
Oh... Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can't hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I'm feelin' low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don't know if I'm ever coming home.

I'm fired up for that OCT 1 match up against the Rams.

I lost some awesome coin when I took the Lions +14 on MN a few years back and they just sucked. It's payback time. No matter which side I take, I will profit on this damn contest.

I also live in Michigan and follow the Lions almost fanatcially. Though I don't agree with everything he wrote, this is the scoop on the C Rogers issue is close to accurate.

They told him to come in lighter(which weight was never an issue with him) and he did. Supposedly he bought a treadmill and increased his speed and actually looked really good the first few days of camp BUT since then he has not done anyhting special. In fact (and this from 3 beat writers I listen to almost everyday) Rogers looks to be the odd man out and is clearly on the 3rd string right now.

Less than hour ago i hear Tom Kowalski (beat writer) say that Rogers needs a big camp and some help or he is gone. If the Lions had a choice they would keep M.Williams over Rogers, right now. I have heard this at least 3 times this week. Not sure about where you are getting your Rogers info but like I said I have and I have spoke to others who will tell the report on him is it is all but over unless he has a HUGE training camp and so far nothing of the sort. I n fact he sat out one day last week of a practice and the coaches didn't even let him in one play because he is os far down the depth chart.

He also said it is not a heart issue but more the fact he just looks like an average reciever now. Actually unbeleiveable because he looked so gifted just a few years ago.

As for how good they are going to be? Who knows their was huge optimism a year ago and nothing. I just see any major changes oher than scheme that can make this a winning team. Just don't look on paper like anyhting special. I hope I am wrong (I have been before)

Talked to a contact out in Allen Park, Michigan in camp with the Lions.

80% chance Charles Rogers is outright released before the start of regular season.

The Man,
I'd feel for you if your front office wasn't a mean average age of 83 and your #6 receiver wasn't better than our #1.

Buffalo Bills are the late 80's/early 90's Arizona Cardinals, except we're probably leaving town once the Marv and Ralph circus finishes.

"running back that will have a TERRIFIC year..." might be a new system but Kevin Jones will never break out in this league. they gave him the start 13 games last year and he came away with 600some yards.

as a commentator once said, when Barry retired he cursed your running game for all eternity lol

Charles Rogers now unemployed.

Small rumors of Green Bay giving him a chance.

Another Detroit first rounder out of football. I guess this latest Millen debacle warrants another raise and contract extension

but the year before (his rookie year), he lead the league inrushing the 2nd half of the year and was a pro-bowl alternate
