Chicago –1 +1.14 over MILWAUKEE <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The Milwaukee Brewers, collectively, have struck out 864 times and that ranks them 29th out of 30 teams. Only the Florida Marlins have struck out more and that number (864) is almost embarrassing. That brings us to Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs, a guy, that is as difficult to it as any pitcher in the business and has 158 k’s in 158 innings. The Cubs strength here plays right into the Brewers weakness, that being, they’ve never seen a pitch they didn’t like. Zambrano has 12 wins for the Cubs and in 24 starts he has lost just four times and that’s pretty remarkable when you factor in the team he throws for. Furthermore, Zambrano is 7-0 away from Wrigley with a 2.67 ERA. Chicago is playing much better of late with nine wins in 12 games while the Brewers have dropped three in a row and four of six. Dave Bush has yet to win consecutive decisions this year and has just one win in is last four starts. We made a big mistake by laying off the Cubs last night but won’t miss the opportunity tonight. Play: Chicago –1 +1.14 (Risking 1.5 units).

LA. Angels –1 +1.06 over CLEVELAND
Man, you look at the Indians 47-64 record and realize how big a disappointment this team has really been. Well, things aren’t getting any better for the Indians and things are going just fine for the Halo’s with five wins in a row. It’ll be John Lackey for the Angels and aside from a shaky outing in is last start vs the Red Sox, the man has been money. Prior to that start Lackey went 5-1 with a 2.08 ERA in July, which included back-to-back shutouts and a one-hitter at Oakland. He’s allowed just 121 hits in 153 innings with 129 k’s and 54 walks. Lackey will oppose Jake Westbrook. The opposition is hitting .429 off Westbrook in his last four games. His last start, a win over Boston, could be regarded as one of the ugliest wins by a starting pitcher in history. Westbrook went eight innings and surrendered 15 hits and six runs but managed to escape jam after jam after jam. Lastly, Westbrook faced the Angels on July 17 and was torched to the tune of 12 hits and seven runs in 3.2 frames and frankly, aside from the Indians being the inferior group, they’re also outclassed on the hill. Play: L.A. Angels –1 +1.06 (Risking 1.5 units).

Tampa Bay +1.57 over SEATTLE (4:35 PM)
The Mariners are making just about every pitcher they see look like the second coming of Bob Gibson and when you lay big juice with the Mariners you had better wear gloves to protect your fingernails. Yeah, Richie Sexson went deep to end it last night but so what, Jae Sao mowed them down like they were standing still and that’s much more significant than Sexson closing his eyes and swinging for the fences. The Mariners are near the bottom of the league in every offensive category and that includes on base %, slugging %, batting average, runs scored, and bombs hit. Jarrod Washburn has been awful at Safeco and in fact, hasn’t won at home since May 24. Washburn is 0-3 in is last five home starts with a 5.76 ERA. We’d prefer someone other than Jamie Shields but he’s the reason the price is as juicy as it is so we’re not going to concern ourselves with that. What we do know is that the Mariners can make any pitcher look good and the Devil Rays bats are much more explosive. Play: Tampa Bay +1.57 (Risking 1.5 units).
