Whats up with people who bet the same amount on every game?

I never understood this concept? Isn't there ever a game that
merits a larger wager? Don't you ever love one of your selections??
And if you do ever love a selection why do you bet the same
amount on that one, as you would one of your regular ones?

For example let's say a handicapper likes 5 games and bets 1 unit on each game, does that mean he has the same confidence on every game
every day???? WTF? C'mon how does that make sense??

Also have you noticed the people that bet the same unit amount
on EVERY SINGLE GAME usually don't have any reasoning for their
selections? It has to make you wonder?????

I'd love to get some feedback on this and maybe this can help
me understand this.

I have no answer except to say I couldn`t & don`t do it. I suppose they could say "if you like one more than the others, why waste $$ on the lesser gms?" All I know on any given CFB Sat. I have 15 or more gms I like. Probably 3 or so I LOVE. I have a hard enough time getting this gp down to a manageable level let alone getting off some of my favs. Makes no sense to those guys I`m sure but that`s what I`ve done for over 50yrs! BTW Gyno my fellow FF (foots fanatic), you may see you`re no longer PP, instead I`ve given you the more laudatory title of Vagina Visionary!! Hope you don`t mind. BOL

Not me. My bet size is all over the place. I remember winning 500 on a 4 oclock game and then betting 10 bucks on an 8 oclock game just to have action on it.

Even if I was trying to be Pro. I am not with the concept of flat bet every single game either. Come on, you know a lot about this one game you have to like it enough to bet just a little more. Right?

Gyne, it's a somewhat interesting topic. I honestly don't think anyone plays this way. If they do, they are into scalps/middles BIG TIME. And don't feel any real need for an extra risk. JMHO.

Actually I see alot of people betting this way, and I have asked
them and I never have received a response that made sense.

How can you have the same confidence on every play?? Weird I think..

Yeah, I think you are right.

Bigger question to me is how can you not have EXTRA confidence on a contest you happen to know quite a bit more than usual. And then bet MORE than usual, with what you know.

Flat betting is usually the way to go. Too many things can happen in one game to make it a loser for you. If you bet more on certain games, you are putting yourself at more risk, and your smaller plays mean a lot less at that point.

in my opinion when youi put in a bet you have 100 percent confidence that it could win. if you dont then i have no idea why you place the bet. ranking the bets is pointless in my opinion, especially if my top pick loses, then I'm down because i picked a game i liked a little more when in reality if i didn't like my picks i wouldnt put them in.

I had a very successfull MLB season last year varying my bets. I went back to my spread sheet and changed all my bets to the average bet and I would have had a 1% higher profit flat betting.

All of my bets are for uniform amounts but the only human sport I bet is football and only four or five plays a week. I figure you either like a game or you don't.

El jefe and gtc08, I'm glad you guys posted.

I'm talking about when you just LOVE a game. Not your best pick for any random saturday or sunday. But when you just LOVE a game. That kind of love you feal just a few times in a season.

Like when ND was at home getting two touchdowns against USC, didn't you feel that? Or is this considered an unworthy extra risk also?

Or how about last year when the Steelers played the phony Vikings and
were only -3 ???? I couldn't believe that line and put about half my
bankroll on it.

Each to their own, I agree with Jefe but I will keep My stakes fairly uniform within a Sport depending how much I think I know. My NFL Bets would be 3 Times a MLB Bet and a lot depends on what advantage you think you have, once again, NBA would get bigger bets from me not because of Knowledge but the amount of edge I'm getting. Its fairly obvious that the more success you have at a sport the more Cash you put in EG recent seasons in The NFL has had me reduce my bets due to it being more volitile. :drink:

For me the question is what the intent of each wager is. With my horse matchup plays, those of 1 unit are strictly value plays, often on pretty decent sized underdogs. It's usually a scenario where the horses are relatively even on ability and the underdog is overvalued. As my bets increase in size, they not only still contain value but the disparity in ability increases. In the end it comes back to intent of the wager.

CFB i play 1-5 units.

Hard to win "flat" betting for me. But when you have some plays that are 3-5 times bigger naturally you MUST win the big ones to show plus. Been doing this for about 35 years now.
Used to play in 1-3 units and still do but every once in awhile there is one that desevers 4-5 units.
But each to their own i suppose.

Why? Because most people who can win longterm still can't accurately judge how large their advantage is on specific bets (although many think they can). Most winners will have a similar record for flatbetting and for weighted betting (ie various sizes).

If this is the case it would appear that your weaker bets are minimal +ev, breakeven or even -ev.

why not have a friendly contest. take a unit bettor vs a flat bettor. start on aug 31st til end of season. post all your plays you wagered and how much. at the end see who was more profitable.

Insiders, my Mature RX Brother, you have a WITNESS! I love to hammer the plays that I LOVE! Don't win them all, but still do quite nicely. LT:103631605 :toast: :money8:

No way!!!

Good example of sailing close to the wind, didnt he put everything on one play this year in MLB? He certainly lost all his Profits (supposedly $18,000) one rainy night in Denver 2 Years ago. Both times He advised not to do this normally so I suppose its back to the, each to their own. :drink:
