Last night I am watching Miss and La game. La is ahead 1-0 and is the home team. They have 14 guys and the rule is they all need to play 3 consecutive outs and a plate appearance. So here is where it gets interesting. LA, still has three guys left to get a plate appearance. They are at 8-9-1 in the order. The 8-9 guys have already batter but the 8 guy comes up again and gets on. Same with the 9 guy. Then they let the last three straight guys get the at bat requirement. To the best of my knowledge, if Miss. gets one of the first two guys out and then the first two pinch hitters, they would have had to let Miss score or forfeit the game? Is this correct, or can you assume they would have hit in the bottom of 6th if there would have been one? Just wondering if the LA manager about became the biggest dumbshit of all time, or if you can use they bottom of the 6th to allocate the designated plate appearances, even if it does not exist? Thanks if anyone knows.

You are dead on in the fact that LA would have had to let them score to get to the bottom of the 6th to avoid the forfeit. A 14 man roster is a huge roster and tough for the manager to handle. They almost got caught last night.

If I was the coach I would start my worst players and pull them as soon as they had one at bat. Get it out of the way instead of having to take out the better players in the last inning of a close game to get the bench in.

Vermont had to forfeit a game to New Hampshire because of this rule, I believe.

Just heard that too. What a horrific managing job. How would you like to live with that for the next few weeks.

No, just realized it while watching it. I was dumbfounded by what I was witnessing. How can a manager be that stupid? If the first or 2nd guy makes an out they would have forfeited their way out of Williamsport. The managers that only have 11 on the team have the right idea. Hopefully that Lousiana manager reads this thread before the LLWS starts.
He was VERY fortunate.
