3-3 (-2.84 units) sunday
96-77 (+27.89 units) overall

I guess a boring Sunday in bases for me. I had so much to do that I did not even check the scoreboard all day long. I checked this morning to see how I did. I can live with only losing 2.84 units. I have had much worse days.

I will have to admit that my phillies being in the wildcard race has kept me interested in bases so far. They are not 4 back of the reds, that loss yesterday really hurt. Could have only been two, but it four....big turnaround. I know if they fall further back that I will probably stop bases. And I don't feel good about tonights game....I like the mets in that one. I almost hope I am wrong, but I don't think I am. I have learned to not bet with my heart in baseball. I hate betting against my phils, but sometimes you have to if you want to be a winner.

mets -137 vs phillies (3 units).............I know this is a very important game for the phillies, but I am convinced this team cannot win at home on a regular basis. I just feel that there is so much pressure on them. The phillies fans can be brutal, no..I take that back, they are brutal. I love Cole Hamels and if he was pitching against somebody other than Pedro, I woul be on the phils tonight. Pedro is starting to pitch like his old self again and I just don't see the phils hitting him tonight. It kills me to go against my phils when they are in a wild card race, but I have to use my head and not my heart.

oakland -149 vs seattle (3 units).........This is a play on stats alone. For starters oakland is 33-26 at home and are in first place. Seattle is 25-32 on the road and is in last place. That alone is good enough reason to take oakland. Lets go deeper......Zito is 12-2 career vs seattle. Zito is 3-0 (0.45 era) against them this year. WOW!!! Washburn is 0-2 (7.50 era) vs oakland this year. HOW CAN YOU GO AGAINST SOLID NUMBERS LIKE THIS? I am generally not a stat or trend type of player, but when I came across this I said wow. Win or lose, I will have no regret taking my chances on this play.

Cubs +123 vs houston (2 units)...........I hate playing the cubs, they always let me down. When I take them they are usually a no show. The only time I seem to take them is when Zambrano is pitching and he is today. Here are some more stats for you. Zambrano this year is 2-0 (0.78 era) vs the astros. It appears to me that the stros cannot hit this guy this year, he must have their number. The astros are another one of those teams who seem so unpredictable. Just when you think they have it together they lose a few and when they seem to suck, the string some wins together. Both teams are goofy. I must be nuts playing this game but I cannot ignore Zambrano's number against the astros this year.

under 9 (-118) mets/phillies (2 units).............I usually don't play totals, but Pedro is pitching and I love Cole Hamels of the phillies. I already took the mets in this game, but they are not going to blow them out. Last time these two played, I remember taking the over in some games because they both seemed to be lighting up the scoreboard at the time, but I think they only scored 8, 7 and 9 runs in those games. Now we get a total of 9 with this pitching matchup. I just don't see double digits in this game at all. Lets make it mets 3-2 or 4-2, something like that.

dodgers -137 vs florida (1 unit)..............I said that I am going to keep playing these dodgers until they start losing, and it appears that may never happen. I do feel like they are due for a loss, so I am only making this a one unit play. It also scares me going against willis. Willis is not throwing the ball the well right now, but he is always capable of throwing a gem. If the books are going to continue giving the dodgers at home at a low price, I will continue to take it. Thanks sportsbooks!! I appreciate it.

pittsburgh +1.5 (-135) vs milwaukee (1 unit).............Again a play that I like, but taking a team like pittsburgh, I don't want to risk more than one unit. How about those pathetic bucs? I am willing to be that very few people realize that the pirates are actually 31-28 at home. I was not really paying attention to their home record because they suck so bad on the road. The brewcrew has a losing record on the road, so it is very possible the bucs could win this game. I feel better with the runline at only -135. I have a strange feeling the brewers win this by one run.

Despite losing some interest in baseball, I feel really good about these plays today. I almost upped all my unit by one. But you know the saying "greed kills"

Well, time to start researching some of those preseason games for week two. Good Luck everybody!!
