Time For The Mass Media To Step Up To The Plate

Yeah we all know [some here very painfully know] about the huge sums of $$ lost by otherwise [sic] law abiding American tax paying citizens in the BOS debacle.

Question is when, if ever, will the mass media step up to the plate and report how the DOJ and the right wing idiot representatives of the Great American Theocracy have in all likelihood caused such financial hardship to those same families they want to "protect" from themselves and those "shady" offshore operators who might abscond with deposits and winnings. An craftily engineered self-fulfilling prophesy if there ever was one.

Guess here is that the average American knows nothing more than that a "racketeer" has been busted, if he even knows that much.

I agree.I still am waiting on Dateline Nbc,60 minutes, or 20/20 to do a 20 minute story on all this. This should be a pretty big story with all the people it impacts.Without this website and a few others I would be lost. There does not seem to be a lot of major stories about this.I have friends who gamble offshore during football season and when I talked to them the other day they were clueless to the lastest events.

Unfortunately, in the mainstream $20 or $30million dollars - even $50 million is not much money....

Some scandals here (Enron) have costed over $100 Billion.

The vast majority of gamblers don't pay taxes on their gambling activities, which is one of the reasons the feds f*** with offshore gambling in the first place. I guess "otherwise" is the operative word in your post.

The media just reflects the population and what it wants to see and hear. Most of the public doesn't necessarily want laws against online gambling, but that doesn't mean they care about it and are sympathetic to our needs. The industry will eventually get its act in gear. There are some efforts out there to push a different viewpoint and agenda, efforts I may work with, but don't expect things to change for the better overnight. Its still hard to get level coverage of the legal gambling industry as it is, even though over half the population has played in casinos before and well over half do some sort of gambling each year. Old standby views of it still hold lots of sway over editors' desks nationwide.
