Noticed i could save about three dimes on a watch buying from a company online called World Of Watches. One problem, They say their watches are new however they may have seriel numbers filled off due to savings with tere vendors. They give the same warranty however and have inhouse tech's , but wonder if anyone has had experience with buying one this way. This is an aniversary gift for wife so don't want any problems.

I wouldn't buy a nice watch with its serial # filed away. Some online stores will offer discounts with the serial numbers still intact. Shop around!

Buying Jewelry online.

Yes you are probably right. If it sounds too good it probably isn't.

I bought a Citizen dive watch from princetonwatches-dot-com and their price was about $100 cheaper than I had ever seen it at any department store. You might also want to try a search at yahoo shopping to comparison shop prices. I'll probably buy my next dive watch off of e-bay, but if you are looking for a very high end watch I would make sure you are dealing with a seller with a long history and excellent feedback.

ps removed serial number place sounds shady to me

Serial numbers filed off?

I've bought two Breitlings from World of Watches. I did not see the non serial number thing. Both of mine came with serial numbers and papers so it seems if Breitling is the brand you are fine. I saved about $4000 and am looking at another one - watches are my downfall -like women and shoes.

Since WOW offers a 30 day money back return, I will continue to buy from them and simply return any without serial number.

WOW has like 2000+ feedbacks on Ebay so they must not file many numbers off... They prob got sued by some company and had to do that with one brand or something...

In fact in the future to save the hassle, I will call first and ask if the one I want to buy is without serial number....

Great advice!!! As far a watches go, you're better off buying new from a licensed dealer, IMO. Buy a used Rolex and you have no idea what parts are inside of it. You literally have to open the watch and partially disassemble it to verify it's authenticity. Pucker and pay...buy it new. It's only money anyways.

You are correct Anti-liberal! I was looking at a Breitling online and saw it a lot cheaper than the store price. When I was at the store (an Authorized Breitling dealer), I told him I saw it oinline for cheaper and he said you have to watch out for stuff like that. He said some guy brought in a Breitling and everything on the outside looked perfect and exactly like the real thing and he even got the letter of authenticity from the online company. They opened it up, fake parts on the inside. So definitely an Authorized dealer is best.

Watches online

Well i think i am going to go the higher road and buy from the dealer. Called World of Watches today and they said on most high end watches, not all but most took the seriel numbers off because they take over the warranty.Sounds a little fishy, think i will go the other direction. thanks to all

I was in the retail jewelery business for 30+ years until last August when I retired. You will be WAY, WAY, WAY, better off buying from an Authorized Dealer unless imitation parts, or bands don't matter to you. There are more fake Rolexes out there than there are authentic ones and I speak from experience, some of the phonies look and feel real in every respect, so buyer beware. The same is true of the other finer brands.

Watches bought online

To Closer. Took your advice after going to Jewelry store and they said had to order and would be 10 days. Called Allan Yarman and they had in stock. Full warranty from factory and them. All papers enclosed , 10 day money back guaranty to have checked out. All seriel numbers reg with factory and saved about 1100.00. Needed right away so may have not bought if Store had had in stock. Everything looks above board. :smoker2:

look at some Seikos...they're around that range and they look good. Omegas are in this price range as well. I think either of those would be a great started watch for you. If you can go up to $3200, get that watch featured in "Casino Royal"...sweet...AND BUY A NEW WATCH....NO USED!
