Ok anyone that complains about Vegas should come spend a few days down here in August. Holy Moly, its like LA traffic. All day long, some streets are perpetually gridlocked. Freeways are bumper to bumper for rush hours that seem to last about 3 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. And my God, this defintely has a variety of the worst drivers you could find. Half of them are driving 5-10 mph under the speed limit, while most of the remaining drivers want to go about 20 over the speed limit and are weaving to get around the slow drivers.

And the weather? Yeah its really nice when it is 91 and 71% humidity. I am not fond of 105 degree days in Vegas, but I can't imagine anyone saying this crap down here is better.

To top it off don't expect to use English unless you get out of Dade county or go to South Beach. People in the shops, restaurants and the mall have all addressed me in Spanish first and used pretty broken English when I asked if they spoke English. Trust me I am not blonde, but I don't look Cuban either. If I use mediocre Spanish with them they just respond with even faster Spanish. I joked with some "Cuban" girl (she admits she was born in the US, but insists on being referred to as Cuban) that I crossed over the border and into the "mainland", ie. Ft Lauderdale, and she got mad! We are a proud part of the US she insists, but of course she is Cuban. WTF?:missingte

If Vegas is a crime ridden dump, this place makes Vegas seem like paradise. Thank goodness this is a business trip and I am not wasting my money on this! Let the flaming begin. :realtongu

Why live in Miami when one can just as easily live in Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater.

4-1 over the Miami/FtLauderdale area in my humble opinion.

When I'm down there, I never leave South Beach - the traffic is so bad. Just wait till it rains - you'll swear the cars do not have wipers.

West side of the state is much more appealing. I hear they even speak English over there.

Naples is beautiful..... Miami is a nice city to visit, but a dump to live in compared to Orlando or Tampa. The Keys to the south is actually the best part of Florida and the panhandle is really nice as well. Nothing beats the white sand beaches of Panama City, Florida or Fishing the straights down in the Keys.....

I would love to spend time in Tampa instead, but Fish has to get to work on his local lawmakers to allow slots at the tracks there and I will come spend a happy hour or two with the crowd, preferrably taking in a Lightning game as well :103631605

Until then, work is unfortunately around Broward and Dade counties. Next time though definitely will stay in Ft. Lauderdale instead. Don't know why I let them talk me into staying near the Miami Airport.

I have lived in Florida for the majority of my life. Florida is a really wacked state.

South Florida---has nice beaches, great restaurants, superficial people, and the best group of scam artists in the nation. It has the most corrupt local government and yes the worst sports fans (except the Dolphins have a decent following but even they dont have the full support).
Everyone in Miami speaks Spanish, the traffic is LA-like. There are so many OYEs down there. Basically young spanish guys that think they are Don Juan with their lowered Honda Civic with spinning rims and neon lights. The weather is brutal except in the winter when it is nice. Otherwise it is 90+ with 90% humidity and afternoon thunderstorms daily.

The West Coast of Florida is something else. The Southwest portion is filled with RedNecks. Fort Myers is the capital. Here you will find the city sport is NASCAR and the best place to hang out is the Golden Corral all you can eat Buffet or the Wal-Mart Cafeteria. The girls are dumb and loose, usually pregnant by 15. They dont believe in shoes and it is really a depressing place to be.

The Tampa/St. Pete area is much better. Still RedNeck but some semblence of normal people. Nice beaches, decent night-life.

You couldn't pay me to live in "Havana North". Heat and humidity that can be crippling. If you are outdoors-you're wet....either sweating or getting rained on.

damn, the people you are making fun of are probably immigrants at least working and trying to better themselves...the fuckin nerve of those spics to use broken english in your presence..they should just sit home and keep their mouths shut untill they learrn to speak it perfectly...this post makes you sound like an elitist pig...and how is that joke about the mainland funny? would it be funny if you crossed from a black neighborhood into a white one and said "back from Africa" or some ignorant shit like that? you sound like a prejudiced prick

No moron, I am not prejudiced. My wife's first language is Spanish. She works hard every day to further improve her English and does it well enough that she can manage a store with almost no Spanish speaking customers. In Miami its just easier to be lazy and say forget it and learn just enough to make a sale. Admit it, what that girl said to me was insulting. I am an American. Everyone that is born in this country is an American. I have long defended that principle in the face of all this negativity about immigration. I can only hope now these American born children of immigrants respect our country better than our wannabe Cuban. You can't have it both ways and say you are something else, but then pretend to be insulted when someone calls you out on it. I wouldn't have said that to anyone else, but that girl and anyone who goes on about being something they aren't plain and simple deserve it.

Call me what you want, I simply don't care. I live in Vegas, you know the place everyone seems to love calling a shit hole. Now you know just a little how it feels. Live with it.

i have never called vegas a shithole, and I wasn't bothered with any part of your post except the part I quoted...you said its "easier to be lazy?"..how do you know how long every person you encountered has been here? you can't possibly..so you make a stupid generalization instead..you have every right to disagree with that girl or anyone, but that mainland joke you made wasn't funny, for the reason I stated earlier. point is, the part I originally quoted has prejudice overtones, as does your generalization of "in Miami it's easier just to be lazy and say forget it..."

From what I've read I'd go with Miami over Vegas. I think the weather is better then what this guy says. Vegas gets boring after awhile, regardless of those commercials saying 24/7 fun.
