Ok im due for a new phone from verizon in a few weeks. Wondering if you guys can help me out here. Ive always just had basic phone and am play about 75 bucks a month already and not getting anything except text and calls.

Was thinking about getting a PDA phone. There about $400 but hell even the decent regular phones are about $200 so im thinking the PDA would be worth it.

Was checking out the 6700 and was very impressed. Manager told me though if you were to use slingbox on it and go over your 5gig your service will be terminated. Said you could only use it about a few times a month, and I'll take his word cause he had it on his phone. He told me that the 6700 has wi-fi and could use that to watch the slingbox.

Now what I need help with is I do not know to much about these PDA's or how to set up the wi-fi. Is it worth the hassle? Even if I dont have a slingbox are these phones worth it and if you have one what do you use it for? Can i download a poker site on it and play from phone?

The plan verizon offers for this phone is only about 30 bucks more a month so not that bad. So is it worth the extra money esp with football around the corner or should I save 200 bucks and just get a normal phone? Any comments are appreciated thank you guy

Rule for the 6700. If you get a lot of phone calls, it sucks. I took mine back after like 7 days. The web features are the best. Screen is side-side like the SIDEKICK. If you plan on using the phone a lot, you need a head set. It is touch screen and I lost track of the hang-ups etc when my cheek touched the screen on a call.

I have a T-Mobil sidekick2..I love the phone.

The best thing is the data is $20 extra a month for unlimited data...never used it with a slingshot.

Love my Treo 650. in fact, I'm typing this post with my right thumb, cruising down I-4 between Orlando and Tampa.

I don't think I can play poker on this thing, but I use it quite a bit to wager remotely. I also get both my personal and work email on this. Not a great telephone, however.

Can you log into Pinnacle with the 650?

Any of the above phone will blow you out, and will make the RAZR look like a piece toy. These are the phones that you can't find at your local singular, or verizon phone store, I don't think they're even out in the U.S. market yet (U.S. are always late for lastest cellphones compare to Asia and Europe), but they're already out in most of the Asian counties such as China/HK/Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and some europe countries.

So, if you want something special instead of what every one else had, example..RAZR....er.....:missingte, get yourself one of this, you can buy them at a online retailer or through a reputable ebay seller.

exoticphone.com is a good place to start, but they're pretty expensive though.

OK, I'm a certifiable gadget degenerate and I follow all of the geeky tech sites to stay on top of this stuff. I feel I'm highly qualified to recommend a phone/PDA combination.

A lot depends on what you want to use it for. If you do heavy email, I'd recommend the Blackberry 7250. It's sort of a weird shape for a phone, but if you mix in a Bluetooth headset (which I highly recommend) it works pretty well. I use a 7250 myself and like it a lot--especially for email. It's not too bad for web browsing, assuming that you don't want to mess around with heavy graphic sites--for checking scores and lines and whatnot its pretty good. The downside of the Crackberry is that there's very little 3rd party software written for it, while there's a ton of it for the Palm. Depending on your use, that may or may not be a big deal...

I also have a Palm Treo 650 (like I said, I'm a degenerate). It's a little skinner and has a more phone like form factor, and I find it easier to talk on without the headset. The email service is decent, though not as good as the Crackberry. One nice thing about the Treo is that a lot of books now offer wireless wagering access for the Palm OS (as well as other OS's like the Windows Mobile). I know that CRIS and Carib have nice little Palm OS apps that let you bet right from your Treo. As far as the other PDA type functions--calenders, note taking, contacts, etc--the Treo beats the Blackberry hands down.

I've also heard good stuff about the Motorola Q--I've even thought about getting a Verizon account just to get one (I'm a degenerate, remember). I haven't used one myself so don't have first hand experience with it but it has received very good word of mouth from my fellow gadget degenerates. It runs the Windows Mobile OS which people either love or hate. Personally, I find the Palm OS easier to deal with but that's just one man's opinion.

So if you want to go the PDA phone route, depending on how much email you deal with I'd go with the Crackberry 7250 or the Palm Treo 650. Verizon also offers the Palm Treo 700P, which is the latest release using the Palm OS. From what I hear, its probably not worth sweating the extra money for at this point. Word around the campfire is that a significantly redesigned Treo will be released early next year.

As far as regular phones go, I haven't used one in so long I can't recommend any firsthand. The RAZR is obviously very popular and the people I know who have one love it. My gripe with the RAZR is that *everyone* has one. The LG Chocolate has been a very polarizing phone--its got a decent MP3 player if that's important to you but personally I'd rather keep my MP3s on my iPod. Verizon has several spiffy LG phones--I've had a couple of LG phones and I've liked them. If you get any phone, make sure you get one that is Bluetooth enabled.

All things being equal, I'd go with the Blackberry or Treo 650, or give the Motorola Q a shot...

Hope this helps!

The built in Wi-Fi is a nice feature, but if you're going to pay for the Broadband data plan (which I assume is what the extra $30 charge you're talking about is) you don't *really* need it. If you're somewhere that has wireless Internet--like the local espresso bar I work at--you can just connect to their network and will likely get faster speeds, though for basic text based web browsing it won't really matter much. The Wi-Fi in most PDA's is pretty simple to use--worst case scenario is you'll have to get the encryption key from the place if they have their wireless protected but that's just like entering a password on a website.

The broadband Internet access will be set up by Verizon and will require no additional configuration on your part.

On the topic of cell phones and pdas. Has anyone ever tried Betcris mobile/wireless betting offering? I'm a little concerned about security and stability. Does it actually work? I travel alot so I prefer to use wireless/mobile because it's convenient and more discreet if you know what I mean.

I have used it with little problem. Some of the menus are cumbersome and require many taps to get to where you want to go, but all in all it's pretty solid.
