NY Yankees –1 +1.03 over BOSTON

Cory Lidle and the Yanks get the opportunity to put the Red Sox out of their misery and frankly, we can’t see this one going any other way. The last thing in the world that the networks wanted to see was a Yanks sweep but get out the brooms. Out-of-shape David Wells will face the Yanks potent line-up and if Schilling, Lester and Beckett couldn’t get the Red Sox to the winner’s circle how the hell is this 43-yr old, 40-pound overweight lefty going to? Wells has pitched a lousy 32 innings this year and it’s likely his last season. He was out of shape when he was active and being on the rack for nearly five months likely didn’t improve his conditioning. Wells has been tagged for 50 hits and nine jacks in his 32 frames this year to go along with a 6.06 ERA. The Red Sox bullpen has been a disaster and you can almost hear them whispering, “Please don’t pick me, please don’t pick me.” Boston's bullpen has a 12.67 ERA in the series, surrendering at least four runs in each game and it’s an absolute that they’ll be called on again this afternoon. Does it matter who’s pitching for the Yanks? We think not. Play: NY Yankees –1 +1.03 (Risking 1.5 units).

Texas –1½ +1.21 over TAMPA BAY
They have the AL’s worst team batting average and they’ve scored fewer runs than every team in the American League. They have the worst on base percentage, they’ve drawn the third fewest walks and they’ve struck out more times than every team with the exception of the Indians. They’ve made the second most errors and their team ERA is only better than Kansas City and Baltimore. In a nutshell, that’s why the Devil Rays are 49-75 and have lost 11 of their past 13. Jamie Shields has some pretty decent numbers but don’t let that fool you. The opposition is hitting a generous .297 off him and the Devil Rays have lost eight of the past nine games he’s started. He’s been torched on many occasions already and only a decent run in his past three has his numbers respectable. However, those last three came against slumping teams and tonight he’ll face a hot Rangers squad that just took three out of four in Detroit. Texas has won 10 of 12 and has not lost to the D-Rays this year. The bullpen is firing bullets with an ERA of 0.55 over its last five games. Adam Eaton has a 2.77 ERA and has held opponents to a .174 batting average over his last two outings and is as sharp as any pitcher in the league. Rangers are not going to be stopped by this bottom feeder in the midst of a pennant race. Play: Texas –1½ +1.21 (Risking 1.5 units).
