Well guys, just got back and i was thinking while i was there, the sportbooks out there have NOTHING over the online sites, this may be obvious to most or some of us, but its VERY apparent while out there. Basically its impossible to do the kinds of things i do daily here without even thinking about it. If Wagers, Buying points on totals in baseball, Money line wagers on ALL Pre-season football, forget about that at 90% of all Nevada establishments..

I found myself thinking while out there, i both love and hate this place..

Its somewhere i could probably never live, nor do i really want to. When i got back to Illinois today the weather was SO much nicer and while that isn't the case in the winter/spring, it surely is in the summer.

Basically it came down to me thinking there really is nothing in Vegas i can't have or get here at home, and here i have 1)my computer and 2)access to everything a sports better could want.

Anyone else have a love/hate feeling when it comes to that place?

I feel naked & helpless in a sportsbook without access to a computer. I don't know how anyone can bet any serious money unless they do their online research from their rooms.

If I was at home, I would have placed way more on the damn argos, but its different when you have to carry around all the cash also.....

The internet era for gambling is far and away better than 'the old vegas days' .

People sometimes complain that those days aren't around, but look what your INET access is getting you.

I could not live there either. Of course, that occasional visit is great. But I really like the 4 distinct seasons I have here in Mass.

Spoiled Brats. In fact you may have sparked a story for my 90's thread. I feel naked and helpless. Old timers where are you at?

I feel it's harder to pull the actuall cash out and put it on the games than doing it online for some reason.

i was able to find better odds on a couple nascar plays in vegas than offshore.
pain in the ass was the traffic on the strip though..made it almost not worth getting the better prices

I wished I lived in Vegas. Would prefer the brick and mortor. Something to be said that if I win...I know I'm going to get paid. Not to mention, no fees to collect my winnings.

Sure, the online books offer more options but for me, many of these options are not worthwhile to me. Your mileage may vary.

I am so glad those days of me running around to get the best number are over. It was before they had those cross over walkways on strip. Very dangerous with cars and people everywhere. Ceasars, Flamingo, Barbary Coast, IP, Alladin and Little Cesars were my main places on strip. What a workout trying to get the best of it. Downtown was way easier but the characters down there always bothered me. Stardust to Riv was pretty easy though. So easy now with just a click.

Brock...Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at the bash...obviously there was no reason to go to dinner on Saturday night. Next year (or sooner if you come out) plan on a few extra days stay, I'm definitely up for good hash..

Agreed. I think it has something to do with a mental disconnect between money you've already withdrawn from your bank account (as though it were already spent) and money sitting in your hand. I gambled a whopping 175 bucks the whole time I was in Vegas, and all I could think was that I'd rather be buying a pair of shoes with it.

I go to Vegas twice a year, every year, been doing that for like ever.
I still rather make by wagers on the 'net, but I go to Vegas for the poker games, the nightlife, the blackjack tables, the naked women, etc. etc.
(all the other stuff you can't get while laying in your underwear searching H + BB /IP's on your notebook on your bed in the condo)

One plus though, you plunk 2 dimes on the over of the Giant/Cowboy game and hit, you have 2K more in your pocket 5 minutes after the final gun sounds.

Find me an online book that pays you in 5 mins after the final gun.

last fall at Aladdins book[just outside the actual area] on my cell phone I was comparing lines with my hometown bookie and made most of my action with him. I didn't want to tie up my casino money in case I lost my football bets.

Brick and Mortor gives about the same security as what?

"It was Gary Austin's Race and Sportsbook, located on the Las Vegas Strip across the street from where the Mirage now stands, that suffered an alleged robbery in the mid 1980s, shut down and never reopened.
Neither the police nor the regulatory officials pushed for an investigation. Whether it was corruption or incompetence, Austin was not charged with any crime, and was not forced to pay off all the outstanding tickets on which he owed a fortune.
To this day, there are plenty of bettors in Vegas still holding tickets who get steamed at the sound of the name Gary Austin."
