This happened to me tonight. I am driving across a four lane (long) bridge in the right lane (#2) when I see an oncoming emergency vehicle with lights flashing. Guy in front of me immediately slows and stops. I reluctantly do the same. We continue across the bridge when another emergency vehicle starts our way. Guy in front of me again begins to stop. Hell no. I go into the left lane and pass Mr. minivan this time and then get back into the right lane before emergency vehicle passes. Mr. minivan is upset by my manuever and lays on the horn as I pass. A smile goes acroos my face. This happened in very light traffic if that makes a difference.
What is the logic for stopping on a four lane bridge when an oncoming emergency vehicle passes? I can see not being in the left (#1) lane. But why stop in the right lane? How does that help the emergency vehicle? Does this same logic extend to the freeway? Does this same logic dictate whenever a siren can be heard, one must pull over and count the roseary?
If they had bridges in Vegas, I bet people there would never stop for some flashing lights.
