Looks like James Toney will be weighing in 250lbs+ for his fight with Samuel Peter. That's crazy. James is a fat ass idiot.

If you can't be Rahman who lost to Oleg, then you're not going to beat Peter 12 - 18 lbs heavier.

Peter still -130 at some books.

I'm still on the fence for this one. Toney did look like crap against Rahman, but Rock is a much better boxer than Peter. Peter has very little boxing skills - he'll probably miss upwards of 85% of his power shots against Toney's super-slick slips and rolls.

Truth is, Toney won't even need to be that mobile to avoid Peter's wild hooks, so I wouldn't be overly concerned with his weight.

IMO, the only question is whether or not Toney can take Peter's best punch. He's NEVER been in the ring with such a heavy hitter. The few clean punches Peter manages to land might be enough to send him down... but nobody knows for sure, not even Toney I suspect.

I see a bit of value in Toney @ +132 (Pinny right now). If you like Peter, you're better off taking the under 11.5 rounds @ +171, cause there's no way in hell Peter outboxes Toney through 12.

I like Peter

Look for the judges to reward Peter when he sends Toney sprawling across the ring -- because that's what's going to happen when Peter connects. Toney has been pushed around the ring in the past because of his size... with Peter, it will be worse. Toney is 38 years old, Peter is 25. And if Peter would have fought Rahman, Peter would have ko'd Rahman for sure.

I think Peter's youth, power, size gets him the win.

I watched both fighters work out and honestly Toney looked better then Peter. With that said he was breathing so heavily it wasn't even funny. And although Peter didn't look great in his workout to me, he still gets the nod for several reasons. His youth, his power, his height. Toney is 38 years old, he's a veteran. But he's aged, and it dosen't look like he'll be under 235 for the fight.
While James can out box Peter, I don't think he can do it for 12 rounds without catching a big looping knockout punch.

Correct. This is where Toney's chin gets thoroughly checked. I'm just not positive he'll go down. As much as a beast he is, Peter couldn't knock down lesser opponents.

Peter has pretty good stamina... he kept fighting with power in his match against Klitschko who was 6'6, had a huge reach, and jack-hammer jab.

Toney is 5'9, has no reach, is 38, and fat... and if camp reports are correct, Toney will be weighing in over 240lbs. Toney shouldn't weigh anymore than 225.... 240+ is ludicrous.

As of right now, this is how I see it:

Toney's chin is too good for Peter to knock him out.
Toney doesn't have what it takes to knock Peter out.

Conclusion: This fight is going the distance.

Peter is not much of a technical boxer, so he won't get the decision. Toney is a veteran and will be too crafty for Peter and will outbox him the whole night.

The only way I can see this fight going is Toney by UD. There is still plenty of time before this fight, so I'll continue researching, but I doubt I'll find much to change my mind. My only concern is Toney's stamina.

At 240+ pounds, Toney's stamina and work rate should be a BIG concern. Like CapperKing said, Toney was breathing very heavily during workouts and reports have indicated that Toney refuses to train properly (cardio) saying that he's not preparing to run a marathon.

Peters has the right idea, says he plans on hitting Toney everywhere he can land. Which means he won't be headhunting all night and wasting energy trying to hit Toneys elusive head. Peters should go to the body early and often, that flabby gut ain't going anywhere. With Toney being so out of shape and having that soft midsection, if Peters directs those heavy punches to the body, he could break Toney down over 12 rounds.

However...Toney is by far the better fighter here, and Peters best punch (the overhand right to the back of the head, usually in the form of a rabbit punch) is totally illegal. The Toney camp (and the rest of the world) realize that most of Peters ko's have come from those kind of punches. Roach and team Toney have already warned the referee and commision of these tactics.

The outcome of this fight will be influenced by what punches the ref allows Peters to get away with. If Peters is not allowed to hit to the back of the head, he'll have to break Toney's body down as he's not skilled enough to land clean punches to Toney's face.

I agree with Stephen about this fight going the distance, BUT if Peters is allowed to hit the back of the head, it could be over fast.

I played Peters at +140 a while back (he opened +180 but I missed it) and now Toney is +130 so I'll probably just scalp it and cash either way. But I'll waite for the weigh-in to recommend a play.

If Toney weighs in over 235 lbs... go with Peter. Toney will run out of gas or cramp up when taking shots to the body.

Peter's people have brought in conditioning coach Robert Ferguson on board and Ferguson says Peter will be ready to fight a fast-paced 12 round fight if necessary

James Toney weighed in at 233 lbs.... not as bad as I thought... but still not good. Why Toney doesn't fight at 220 lbs is behond me.

Samuel weighed 257... very thick and strong looking. Toney is going to be pushed all over the place. Can't wait for the fight.

Can you say greased-up light-heavy? :pucking:

How that guy manages to survive in the ring with heavies is beyond me.

I really thought Toney would come in more. But still, lol look at his damn gut. Peter carries 257 EXTREMELY well. This fight is so hard to call. Toney looks in the same shape as he did against Guinn. A fight in which he boxed the crap out of Guinn. I'm still leaning towards Peter by knock out. Mainly because of conditioning, I don't think Toney can go 12 rounds without catching Samuels looping punches. Peter aruguebly packs the hardest punch in the heavyweight division, lets see if Toney can outbox Peter for 12 rounds. I wouldn't be surprised if he took a decision. I just really like Peter in this fight. This is it for Peter, if he loses this fight he has to rebuild AGAIN. We all know how close he was to beating Wlad. Peter won't let this chance slip by him, Peter by knockout.

They're both too fat. I was planning to hedge my Toney bet, but now I'm just going to let it ride. I trust that Toney took the fight believing that he could take Peter's punch...

Can't wait for the fight! One hell of an intriguing matchup. :smoking:

It's either Peter or bust for me. If Peter will pressure Toney then I see him getting Toney out of there by TKO/KO. The question is will he????

Boxlocks: Thanks for stopping by and posting your thoughts. Your analysis is always well thought out and informative.

This weigh in is great news for Toney backers. Many people believed Toney would come in much heavier than 233. Peter should not weigh 257. That's 14 pounds heavier than he was for Wlad. It's no secret that Peter is going to come out swinging. He has predicted to knock Toney out by the 4th round, which is ridiculous considering Toney has not been stopped in 77 fights. I predict that Peter is going to flat run out of gas by round 5 or 6. At that point, Toney will just pick him apart and earn an easy UD.

I don't believe Peter backers are overestimating Peter's power, but I do believe they're underestimating Toney's chin.

Also, the books are making no sense. At BetJamaica Peter is -140, but the over 11.5 rounds is -185. If this fight goes over 11.5 rounds, Toney wins. Toney is the easy choice here. You're getting great value. The wrong fighter is favored, and the books are even saying so with their O/U lines.

I can't wait for the fight. It should be a lot of fun. Good luck to everyone on their plays, and may the best fighter win.

Stephen...I thought the exact same thing when the Over opened around -200

One thing to remember...Toney opened a 2-1 favorite at 5dimes a long time ago, the line we see now is a product of the bettors...not the oddsmakers

There's a good chance this fight will go the distance, so you have to consider the location and promotion, both of which strongly favor Toney as he's fighting in his home town and Goosen Tutor is hosting the event. I've already mentioned that the ref has been warned about Peter punches, since Goosen is signing his paycheck...he should listen

At 233 pounds, Toney is definitly a live dog here at +130

Crazy stuff... Pinny has their fight outcome lines up:

Peter by KO : +285
Peter by D : +360

Toney by KO: +450
Toney by D : +175

Yet Peter is still the favorite straight up? :lolBIG:

Peter by Divine Intervention: +150?

These lines are funny. I had to go ahead and snag Toney at +125 this morning at BetJamaica before he moved down any more. He's at +110 now. Unfortunately, they still don't have a Toney by decision bet.

I'm on Toney +125 large.
