For those of you who followed the College World Series, UNC's ace lefty and Detroit Tiger 1st round pick (6 overall) Andrew Miller was called up to the big leagues with the Tigers after just 1 game in A ball where he went 5 innings and struck out 9 batters.

Leyland said he will use Miller immediately, and that he wont use him on back to back days yet.

Taking the casual "warm him up and see what happens in the game" approach.

Delmon Young was also called up with the D-Rays. Young was the #1 overall pick in 2003. He is the younger brother of Dmitri Young.

Young is famous for his bat toss at the umpire.

First at-bat Freddy Garcia plunked him.
2nd at bat was a bomb over the left field wall.

as a tarheel fan glad to see the kid get the chance to perform on the big stage, had a good outing in lakeland earlier this week, suprised by this decision as i thought he might have been a year or so from getting to this level.

there is a reason for this (and I am not sure what it is LOL). It has something to do with the fact that he is already a part of the 40 man roster or something.

Don't get me wrong he is supposedly very talented but from what I have read this move has been planned all along based on something more than him being ready right now. Should be fun to watch.

He wouldn't be required to be called up just because he is on the 40 man roster, I don't believe.

I think I read somewhere in his contract he signed it said he would be called up to the majors this season.

He pitched a scoreless eighth. However, unless he can also hit, the Tigers will continue to struggle on offense without Polanco. Tigers are now 3-10 without Polanco and are hitting .229 during that span.
