Not the same team... USA has a completely overhauled roster with a new coach and it is showing in these Worlds. They haven't lost a game yet and are winning by a wide margin as compared to the previous Olympic team which as you said, lost to Italy.
USA still has a test left in Argentina or Spain and if they beat either of those teams they have shown they are still the team to beat in the World even if the World has caught up a lot.
Also, France wouldn't have medaled in this tourny regardless of if they had Parker. Greece, USA, Spain, and Argentina are all better (probably others too).

As far as them being overrated, I agree with you to an extent. However, that is only because USA has dominated this sport in the past.
