Your thoughts on this insurance company.

Had policy with this group for Over 30 years.
Had major loss that was denied.
Going to have to file lawsuit to "try" to get paid for major loss.

i worked at the corporate headquarters on an internship in the summer of 98, the place is ENOURMOUS! Like the 5th biggest company in the US, only they are private, not public. I never had a problem getting a claim paid, hit a deer with my car and it was nearly totally, they gave paid all the damages as expected, almost 9000 worth! And gave me a rental, ETC..

Well this claim is for more than 200k.
After the piece on 20-20 last Friday night, i have come to the conclusion that they will do whatever it takes to NOT pay a Big claim. Anything under 10k to them is small claim.

All insurance companies are going to try to deny your claim if its over 200k, that's just the way they do business.
Good luck in court

what am i supposed to say...there is no information on this denied claim,...would love to hear the story...will not be commenting on it though. A very small # of claims are denied and a very large majority are paid. Most are denied with very valid reason....the 20/20 story last week was a total bullshit concocted "media" story that is common these days and these 2 sisters in it for some financial reason probably. Majority of "public" totally clueless when it comes to their policies and what is and is not covered. Again, would love to here Insiders story but will not be commenting on it.

I am a claims adjuster for a large insurance company. I have no idea the facts of your loss, but it sure sounds like Homeowners, and I only do liability.

As for a company doing whatever to avoid paying a loss, sometimes that is true with "third party" claims. But, when the claimant is the insured, denial of payment of a legitimate claim will land the insurer in a BAD FAITH lawsuit, where they can be hit for tons and tons of money. An insurance company will not deny a legit 200K claim, as the risk of paying millions in punitive damages for denying it is not one a company wants to take.

I use state farm and the couple times a situation arose they took care of me VERY well. They come highly recommended from this camp. However, none of my claims were over about 5000.

I understand, and you surely dont know the story.

Well here is part of the story in a nutshell.
Lost house and contents to fire on Xmas eve of 05. State Farm used 179 for investigation and then another 59 days to evaluation of the claim.
Sinse i was convicted of "Conducting a Gambling Game" in 1989 they are going to hold my past against me.
Lawyers tell me the case is worth 0 to2 or 3 million. Have not hired one at this time, still shopping for best lawyer, not the best deal either. Some charge as much as 50% to represent one in a matter such as this.

obtw.....I did NOT set fire, or know ANYTHING about how it started and i was 451 miles from this house when it happened....

2 State Fire Marshalls say that it is "undtermined" BOTH K-9's say NO acclerates.
State Farm hired "private" investagator that says "someone" set it.

Spoke with State Fire Marshall again today. He said "what did you expect the guy that was hired by State Farm to say, as thats how he makes his money"

Well once a insurance company denies a claim, and if they get forced into court, and can "paint" a black enough picture of the party who is sueing them, and naturally if the jury believes "thier" lawyer, thats enough to NOT win the case.
Once a person has a felony conviction of Any kind, they automatcally think YOU did it!!

SAD but true..

Those scumbag insurance companies make me sick when they pull this kind of shit.. Using your past against you is irrelevant and NO judge would allow your past gambling record to be allowed.

Do not pay any lawyer 50% for this representation, hire one by the hour, and get all the paperwork you can from statefarm, in the meantime file the lawsuit Pro Se with the help of a lawyer, might cost you $500.. but you will be getting the ball rolling. In the meantime, at least you will be on the docket.

Frist off thank you for your advice as you do seem to bring a new wrinkle to the table.
You have not read the "fine" print of a (most i think) insurance home owners policy?
Bottom line is " Get on the Docket"...i agree !!
But not so fast my friend, Lawyer shopping for Bad Faith is one thing.Lawyer shopping for Bad Faith, with Bagage is a "whole different animal"
Lawyers ALL want to read the EOG, and i now find out whenever you leave one with a lawyer, sometimes it takes 2 weeks to deceision. (Been here done this twice"
But Lawyer shopping is costly in many ways, when its ALL "meet n greet" with many miles envolved.
