14-foot python crushes its owner to death

Associated Press

LANESVILLE, Ind. — A 14-foot pet python crushed its owner to death, authorities said today after finding the snake loose in a southern Indiana shed with the man's body.

Patrick Von Allmen, 23, was found Monday evening in the shed near Lanesville, about 15 miles west of Louisville, Ky.

A medical examiner determined that the death was consistent with asphyxiation caused by compression of the neck and chest, said Conservation Officer Mark Farmer.

"When you're dealing with a wild animal species, you take on a certain amount of risk," he said.

Von Allmen had told family members he was going to treat the snake for a medical condition, farmer said. He was alone in the shed with the python for about three hours before his body was found.

Relatives said Von Allmen had 10 to 12 years of experience handling reptiles, according to authorities. The family got the snake as a pet five months ago, Farmer said.

Indiana law does not restrict ownership of snakes, and the python was returned to the family.

That is pretty wierd. I was watching the discovery channel a few weeks ago and they said that snakes like that don't just suffocate people they also break all of thier bones. The medical examiners should have easily noticed that.

I used to work with a guy that had a huge python. He plexy glassed off half of his living room to make a huge habitat for this snake. He brought a couple photos to work one day of his huge ass snake, eating a shetland pony. It was one of those ponies that the kids ride in circles at the fair. I guess the pony became deaf and kept falling over, so alive the turn the snake on this pony. To top it off this freak had two small toddlers in his home. Till this day I will not understand how CPS could have left 2 small children in that home.

Snakes can't eat humans, there jaws don't retract wide enough... Unless they happen to be on a plane.

Sure snakes eat humans, just little ones they can eat. This snake was not trying to eat his handler, unless he was a midget. It sounds like he was sticking a medicine syringe down the snakes throat and the snake felt threatened, so defensively it squeezed the shit out of him. Best part of all, the family got the snake back. It's ok Fluffy. We know it was just a little accident. All pets have to learn. Next time the snake kills a family member, I recommend hitting it with a rolled up newspaper, while saying, bad snake, No. Show the snake the dead family member and repeat.

Best Wishes...OF :howdy:

Yea, the only thing is you have to do it right after it happens tho. Snakes have a very short memory, like dogs or midgets. BOL.
