Rounding 101.

Go to decimal place of number you are rounding to.
Read numbers from left to right from that place.
If numbers to right of place are equal to or greater than half of number, move that number to the next greatest integer and place zeros to all numbers on the right(ex. 7551 or 7550 rounded to the nearest hundred goes from 5 to 6, thus 7600)
If numbers to right of place are less than half of number, keep your place value the same and make the numbers to right zero(ex. 7539 rounded to the nearest hundred = 7500).

Those problems aside, math today for kids is bordering on insane. My fourth graders are doing basic algebra, but they're not learning multiplication tables. I have a math degree and I'm the first guy to say that we are a math illiterate country, but some of this is crazy. We had a word problem last week that I couldn't figure out. I emailed the teacher and she couldn't either.

My Daughter is 9....A 4th Grader.

She is Changing Classes...
Has A Different Teacher For..MATH, LANGUAGE ARTS(spelling & reading), SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES! Plus She Has Art/Music/PE/Foriegn Language(Japanese) Once Per Week!

So She Has 5 Different Teachers Everyday, and We Get SLAMMED W/ Homework Everyday! Every Friday, so far this year, she's had a minimum of 3 Test...usually 4! She had Homework Over The Labor Day Weekend!
My Wife, her step-mom is The School Nurse, and has talked to The Principal about our concerns, and he said that They Are Following The State & District Guidelines!
