Is this article written by the same author who went out on a limb to tell us the BOSOX were "done" after they dropped 5 in a row to the yanks?

Journyman,

I must agree with Daniels' breakdown of the different categories that will be important the rest of the way. The loss of Polanco really hurts the Tigers, evidenced by their record of 6-13 without him. Twins seem to have advantage in that they play BOTH the Tigers and White Sox at home. Also, the addition of Liriano into the rotation on Sept. 14 is HUGE!

If the Tigers split, its over. Det owns the Twins too. Looking down the stretch, Det plays KC 6 times while the Twins play the ChiSox for 3. I don't see how the Twins can do it.

I think he's underestimating just how difficult it is to blow a 4 game lead with just 22 games left. If Detroit finishes at 11-11 in their last 22 games, it is damn near over. One of the other two teams willl have to go 15-8 to tie, and neither is playing well enough to do that.

The Kanasas City Royals are 14-16 in their last 30 games, which is a better record than the Detroit Tigers. In addition, you mention the Tigers ONLY have to play the remaining 22 games at 11-11. Unfortunatly, they are 8-14 in their PREVIOUS 22 games. At that rate, the other two teams would only have to play close to .500 ball to catch the Tigers.

The Tigers are 0-5 in one run games their last 20 games, which tells me they've been more unlucky than bad. In games decided by two runs, Detroit is 1-5. They've allowed 76 runs and scored 76 runs, which again shows me they haven't been playing too poorly. This isn't a meltdown situation; the Tigers are playing mediocre ball and it still will take a helluva run to catch them.
