Strengthening wireless signal

I have wireless internet in my house but in some parts of the house, like the basement, it says that the signal strength is "very low." It still works most of the time but it cuts out occasionally.

Is there a way I can strengthen my signal, either one I can do myself or something I can buy (relatively cheaply)?

Thanks.

Thanks - no do-it-yourself remedies like the aluminum foil on the TV antennas, eh?

if your router is one of the ones that can be loaded with a 'modded' firmware then all you need is to get the software and load it in the router (normally the linksys go in that category)

other thing you could do is move the router a little bit to optimize the signal (try different locations inside your house and see if you can get a better reading in the basement without losing signal elsewhere in the house)
