Lisa and Sam keep roll and should defend title here. They are 1 seed and this price is cheap.

Jankovic +420

The Serb is whacking the ball, demolished Dementieva, demolished Kuzentsova last 2 sets in that match, demolished Vaidisova.

Henin had some creeks in her ribs-back so a ready excuse in case things dont go well, and a dream draw so far. Jelena default 3-4 in the 3rd vs Henin on clay earlier in Charleston, which is JHH fav surface. A faster type hard is just what J Jank need to avenge LA loss to Dementieva.

Sharapova wins 2-1 +335

Match should be close, Mauresmo playing better right now, Maria serving well and is ultra competitive. Mauresmo in better from, but Maria plays big points better. Mauresmo should win but wont.

gl today Rail :103631605

the Mauresmo/Sharapova match is so tough to call. Amelie leads 3-0 h2h including a win a few months back at Wimbledon, a Sharapova surface of choice. Maria certainly got tight Vs Tatiana last round, better not do that today or she goes down to Amelie yet again.

I have a hard time seeing Justine losing, she is in brilliant form, infact I dont think Amelie or Maria will beat her. Great run by Jelena, but I think it comes to an end today. You pointed out their battle at Charleston in '05 going the distance --Justine was just retuning from injury at the time having only played 1 previous tourney under her belt..........how great a yr has it been for Justine? she has reached the finals in ALL Grand Slams ytd, amazing.......she tries to make it 4-4 today........i hear ya about the 'excuse' she has ready just in case....:puppy:

btw--great calls yesterday. Davydenko showed a lot of heart, he's becoming stronger mentally as he keeps winning--he would have folded like a cheap suit if that was circa '05

I disagree with your statemen that Blake has the best forehand in the mens game--for what it's worth, for me:
a) most powerful forehand- F Gonzalez......by a country mile
b) best overall forehand-- R Federer.......can hit it flat or with varying degrees of topspin. Can hit it at crazy angles. Completely unpredictable.

with you on the doubles play.......

sweep the board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to most tennis historians, modern tennis terminology also derives from this period, as Wingfield borrowed both the name and much of the French vocabulary of royal tennis and applied them to his new game:

* Tennis comes from the French tenez, the imperative form of the verb tenir, to hold: This was a cry used by the player serving in royal tennis, meaning "I am about to serve!" (rather like the cry "Fore!" in golf).
* Racquet comes from raquette, which derives from the Arabic rakhat, meaning the palm of the hand.
* Deuce comes from à deux le jeu, meaning "to both is the game" (that is, the two players have equal scores).
* Love may come from l'œuf, the egg, a reference to the egg-shaped zero symbol; however, since "un œuf" is more commonly used, the etymology remains in question.
* The convention of numbering scores "15", "30" and "40" comes from quinze, trente and quarante, which to French ears makes a euphonious sequence, or from the quarters of a clock (15, 30, 45) with 45 simplified to 40.
