In one high-profile deal, rival BetUS.com recently signed a $1.3 million advertising pact to promote its brand on radio shock jock Howard Stern's daily show on Sirius Satellite Radio.
BetUS - which like Bet- onSports has much of its operations in Costa Rica but garners most of its wagers from U.S. customers - doesn't expect to become the target of a further crackdown on gambling over the Internet.
"The case against [Bet- onSports] is a much larger investigation than just online gaming," said Christopher Bennett, a BetUS spokesman who works out of an office in western Canada.
"We don't think we're thumbing our nose at the authorities," he added. "We think the law is a little ridiculous. It's an outdated law that needs to be updated."
The feds nabbed former BetonSports Chief David Carruthers in mid-July while he waited in a Dallas airport with his wife for a connecting flight to Costa Rica from London.
A Sirius spokesman didn't return a telephone call seeking comment.
