Allways wanted to say that!! Those from or near the Baltimore area about 40 years ago will know what I'm talking about, if you're a sports fan .

Maybe Journeyman heard that one.

For those that aren't really familiar with the Orioles and Chuck Thompson and Baltimore, this team was baseball's best team for almost 20 years 1966-1983, Baltimore was baseball...it has since changed greatly , and those winning teams are long forgotten around MLB...not around here, from Earl Weaver to Jim Palmer to Brooks and Frank Robinson to Cal and Eddie, it was a special time, the 'Orioles Way'...defense and pitching and the 3 run homer...Baltimore dominated baseball with the simple fundamentals...yep times have changed but those memories will always be with me....if you were born after say 1975 you just wont understand.

can't forget Rex Barney and Pat Santerone's field...ah the essence of baseball, I saw it, I know saw it....it was my field of dreams and I can go back to say 1979 or 1983 anytime I want.... you can take away my Orioles but you cannot take away my memories.

For me, it will probably allways be one of the top memories in my life. Growing up on a samll farm in Va; the O's were OUR team! Listening each summer's night to Chuck on the Radio was a thrill that i shared with my dad. After tater season was over each yr we would go to Baltimore for usually a few games.

I know we attended the 4th game of the World Series--(think it was 66) when the O's swept the Dodgers in the series. It was a truly Magic time and place! He was killed in an accident the following year but that memory to this day of our happiness will allways be there!

Is Chuck still living?

Good times indeed my friend...

Chuck passed away last year from a massive stroke....3 legendary announcers all died around that time, Chuck, Curt Gowdy and Chris Schenkelall around the same age.
