You can't look like Steve Martin and play bass for ACDC. They get paid to look the part and bang the notes out the right way.

Look at Slash from guns and roses. Do you think GNR is the same if they put that gay stiff that hit his head on the diving board there?!

Is this question implying that the Bass player is an overrated musician?

I used to live with a bass player years ago ... when his band played, if he fucked up, it was the most noticable mistake on the stage. And when he fucked up, the rest of the band was only a note or two away from screwing up with him. The bass is not only another set of musical notes, but it is your rythym, tempo, and soul of any song they play. Next time you dance, notice what you're actually dancing to. Chances are good it's the bass line.

So, no, bass players should not 'feel guilty.' They are a MAJOR component of any good band.

No, not the kind of bass from Crow Lake, Ontario. We are talking about the kind of bass, it looks just like a guitar.

And how did he play a fish anyways.

you might have lived with him , but be honest , you let every member of the band dip their wick from time to time ... right !!!

I am not sure a guy like Adam Clayton pulls down the same money as Bono, giving U2 as the example...I have wondered about this ... I think that's why we see so many lead singers going solo eventually so they can be the act, and the musicians are not.

Genesis and Phil Collins comes to mind...Phil would have the same musicians on his tour as the Genesis trio.

I'm going to put myself out there. Ugh, I will hate myself for posting this.

I really think Sting is the man on Bass. The lines are always smooth and captivating. With the Police and as a Solo artist. Just great work.

Journey, cool thing about Edge is that song he had on Zooropa. I thought that song was the illest when it came out.

Which Zooropa song? that CD was a little weak overall...I liked Lemon and Zooropa, rarely do I listen to that one anymore.

If the bass player participates in writing the songs, he has nothing to blush about when he gets those fat royalty cheques. If he doesn't write the songs, then he doesn't make as much money. He can still thank his lucky stars he's riding the coat tails of the songwriter/frontman, since he probably pulls in a tonne by touring.

Definitely agree here. He's a bit of an egomaniac sometimes but extremely talented regardless.

American Idol's Randy Jackson is one of the very best bass players in the world...Jackson was the studio bass player for many well known big time acts...Jackson also played bass towards the end of Journey's dynasty even touring with them in 1986 on the Raised on Radio tour.

The bass player for Bon Jovi isn't even pictured on any of their marketing. I think he gets a much less slice of the income as well.

At least the bass player for the Eagles sang some songs, they are one of the best groups ever. They all play, they all sing....many hits, and a few of them branched off successfully with solo careers.

The tune is called 'Numb' I didnt care for the album much either. Was a lousy follow up to Achtung. You had it right. I couldnt remember either, had to look.

As people touched on if you don't write the song you are not getting the same amount of "points" when it comes down to royalities. Besides now-a-days most of the money groups make come from touring and last time I checked they still do play live so if they make a ton of money so be it.

Keep in mind to that many bands have different compensation because the lead singer may write the songs and get royalties way above what the band members get ... I heard recently that the drummer for Nickel back that was sent packing (fired) only had like a 0.5 or 1 % cut in the action cuz "all he did" was play the drums and had no part in writing the songs ... it maybe the same with U2 .. I think Bono writes all the songs...?
