Okay am I the only one that thinks HDTV programming should automatically be free. Why isn't every show, game, movie & porn flick made using HD? And why do some stations make you pay to watch a program in HD? If you can make something clearer at vitually no cost, then just do it.

it costs a lot of money for these stations to broadcast in high def. It's a multi, multi million dollar switch. Thats why only the ones with all of the money can afford to do it.

also, you get HD for free (local channels) with an antennae.

My DirectV bill is $200 a month for the next 4 months. I have the every channel package and NFL Sunday Ticket and NCAA Gameday. I am pretty sure those $200 will cover some clearer reception. The stations make so much money off of its consumers it is unbelievable. Customers pay to watch. Businesses pay to advertise and investors pay to invest. I am nit buying this bleeding heart story of it costs millions of dollars to produce HD programming.

It supposedly costs about half a million extra to film, produce, and transmit a half hour sitcom in HD. These networks are going to be fighting the FCC and Congress a long time hoping they don't have to go full-time HD for many years.

Everytime costs go up, they always come to the distributors and ask for more pennies. NFL contract goes up, so does ESPN's fees. So if they do go all HD you know as sure as the sun rises so will your bill.
