Chien-Ming Wang was scheduled to face the Devil Rays on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, but the club announced Thursday afternoon that Jeff Karstens will make the start instead.
Due to concern about the weather on Thursday night, Wang and Karstens were flip-flopped, with Wang now scheduled to start on Friday night against the Red Sox.
The Yankees are going for a sweep of the Devil Rays after beating them, 8-4, Wednesday night. The Yankees have won their past five games and their magic number to win the American League East is down to seven.
"These things are hard to explain," said Derek Jeter, who carries a 22-game hit streak into Thursday's game. "Sometimes you feel great for a long time, so you hope you can ride the wave for a while. We're moving closer to where we want to be. Right now, everybody is swinging the bats well."
