I would have to say without a doubt momentum exists in sports, just curious what others think.

Thinking Momentum means anything in sports makes no sense. Why do the anouncers use this term I don't know. Just becuase they say it does not mean it exist. If it means so much didn't ND get any momentum by scoring late in the 1st half. Well we see what good that did them.

Momentum is is what you get when you are riding down a hill on your bike and you do not need to peddle anymore since you already have momentum going forward. If anybody can prove that momentum exist in sports I will deposit $100 in a book of your choice.

Players that think it matters are mentally weak.

If momentum can be so easily captured on a single play than it must not be that important. That would mean momentum can change about 100 times a game. Look at today Michigan had "momentum" when they picked off Henne and returned it for a td to tie the score. It in the end didn't mean anything but a horrible pass by Henne.

Don't be silly. You are forgetting that performance in athletics is as much mental as anything else. If you don't believe in momentum, then you can't believe in home court advantage either. You must think that the road team is mentally weak if they don't have the exact same percentage chance to win on the road as they do against the same team at home. And you're dead wrong.

Yeah right Illini.

Let me ask a question. Does everybody always agree with the MODS around here or can you guys think for yourselves.

Momentum only exist on an object like a bowling ball or a bike. Momentum does not exist in sports. That is just a anouncer being stupid and not good at his job.

I'll say it again if momentum can be changed with just a single play than the value of momentum doesn't mean very much.

To me every play means everything. The next play is the most important play. The play in the 1st quarter means as much as the play in the 4th. Except when the game is a blowout.

Momentum may be completely psychological, but it gives players adrenaline, which gives them a little extra kick to slightly outperform the players that aren't "feeling it"

In a perfect world, with supernatural abilities to perform mentally, you are right. In the real world, you couldn't be more wrong. Humans are weak, and nobody has the ability to perform at their best mentally, 100% of the time. Momentum is like the wind. You can't see it, but you sure as hell can feel it. Sometimes, I would agree that announcers make too much of one particular play that doesn't change the momentum. But like I said before, if you don't agree that momentum exists, then you can't agree that there is home field advantage. Same playing field, same sport, no difference in playing at home or on the road. And we all know that isn't true.
