I have no clue how it happened but I have these two little ankle biters. They were wrestling and fighting like they do everynight. My one dog got his tooth some how stuck in the collar of the other one. They twisted around on the floor howling the loudest most piercing sounds I have ever heard. While twisting he wrapped up the other one's collar so he couldn't breath. I flat out could not get them unhooked. The whole time Brewster couldn't breath and Teddy was going crazy. I couldn't control him or calm him down. I got a scissors and tried getting the collar cut, but it was SO tight I couldn't get the scissors underneath. Somehow Teds tooth finally got unhooked. By that time here I am with a limp dog in my lap, not moving, breathing, no signs of life. Out of a desperate attempt I put him on his back and started blowing air into his lungs. I was pumping and blowing and NOTHING. There he lays in my arms, eyes white, dead. Finally his legs moved, he had some life. A minute later he comes back to life.

One of the scariest moments I have ever had.

It was like watching one of my best friends die right in front of me. I really thought he was dead.

He is really quiet just flat out scared. I wonder if there are any precautions to take. He is sitting here on my lap and I am not letting him go to sleep.

Any advice if there is something extra precations I should take?

Any chance you broke some ribs while you were pumping?

Glad to hear he's OK

No, I wasn't pressing very hard and he is not showing any signs of pain.

You should think about taking him to the vet, as soon as you can, just to make sure all is okay.

May want to call a 24 hour pet clinic if you have one in your area and ask. I'm no vet but I'm sure being scared and tired is normal, as long as it's breathing ok it should be fine

Just called the vet. . He simply said to just stay up with him for an hour or so an watch over him. Also he said to make sure he was breathing normally so to insure his throat isn't swollen. Also make sure his gums are pink to make sure he has good blood flow.

Man I can't believe how scary that was. He had to of been dead for sometime. . . He really did go limp.

I'll tell you what guys; I lost almost 4 figures today in football, but almost losing my dog in my lap tonight really put things back into perspective. :smoker2:

I second the idea behind collars only when necessary. I have a Pomeranian who already has a trache problem (common in the breed) and will only walk him with a harness. The throat of a small dog (anklebiter) is just to delicate.

Glad to hear your dog is doing well Kruser. You're story made me realize my lost 2K today wasn't the deal I was making it. I couldn't put a price on my little guy.

Yup, I made up this entire story about my dog.

WTF is some peoples' problems on this forum? :icon_conf

Why would I have any reason to make up a story like this?
