This is the week when <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Washington</st1:place></st1:State> will most likely try to pass some type of gambling bill or drop it for a very long time.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Many of us have made phone calls and sent emails.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Please everyone, take 15-20 minutes Monday to make some calls. Now is the time. These senators care about two things. Money and votes. Emails are good, but really just get filed. Phone calls are much better.

Please post copies of this message on all gambling related websites.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
  • You can call Frist if you like. Republican. 202-224-3344. I think you are wasting your time. Convincing him that gambling is good or that this bill is unenforceable is like convincing grandma that cookies with grandma are bad.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
If you do call him, the things to reiterate are:<o:p></o:p>
A. You strongly oppose congress legislating what you do in your<o:p></o:p>
home.<o:p></o:p>
B. You are hopeful that you can continue to vote republican and vote for him if he runs for president, but you and your friends will not be able to vote for anyone who brings up or votes for this bill.<o:p></o:p>
C. You feel the military bill should concentrate on the military as that is much more important than online gambling.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
  • Call Harry Reid – Senator from <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Nevada</st1:place></st1:State>. Democrat. Minority Leader. Sits on committee that makes up Military Bill (202) 224-3542. Harry Reid has blocked the gambling bill every time someone has tried to bring it up.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
If you call him reiterate:<o:p></o:p>
  • Thank him for blocking it in the past.<o:p></o:p>
  • Remind him how important this bill is.<o:p></o:p>
  • Express your interest in voting democrat in upcoming elections.<o:p></o:p>
  • Remind him the republicans just want an issue to run on for upcoming elections.<o:p></o:p>
  • Express interest in regulation and taxation.<o:p></o:p>
  • You feel the military bill should concentrate on the military as that is much more important than online gambling. If they are going to discuss gambling it should be on its own and have ample discussion.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
3. Call Mitch McConnell (202) 224-2541 Republican <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Kentucky</st1:place></st1:State>. This guy also sits on the committee that makes the Military Bill. There are 11 repubs and 9 dems. Thus we need 1 repub to block the attachment. If it is 10/10 it does not get attached. Horse racing is very important to <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Kentucky</st1:place></st1:State>.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
    • Remind him how important this bill is. Express your concern that this bill could put horse racing at risk. If this bill passes, horse racing could be next. Also, in the House, a rep from <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Nevada</st1:place></st1:State> tried to attach an amendment that rid the bill of the horse racing and lottery exclusions. The amendment did not pass, but if this bill is brought up in the senate, a similar amendment could be attached. It would be best for horse racing if this bill is squashed.<o:p></o:p>
    • Reiterate your goal to keep voting republican.<o:p></o:p>
    • You feel the military bill should concentrate on the military as that is much more important than online gambling. If they are going to discuss gambling it should be on its own and have ample discussion.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
  • Edward Kennedy (202) 224-4543 Democrat. MA. This guy blocks republican objectives in his sleep. The republicans could try to pass a bill that provides pencils to teachers and he would block it.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
  • John McCain AZ Republican. (202) 224-2235 This guy wants to become president. Remind him how Frist plans to use this bill to jump start his chances at the Iowa Caucus and Republican nomination. He should do everything he can to block this bill…. Remind him about the recent publicity stunt in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Iowa</st1:place></st1:State><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
It is very important that these guys get calls. Please take the 20 minutes it will take on Monday to do this. There are 20,000 people on each major forum. We should easily be able to get 1000+ calls in Monday.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
The time is now. We have nothing to lose.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Good luck.<o:p></o:p>

Wouldn't have made the call without this post. Seems simple enough. I will call. I promise.

If you don't call then don't complain, if everything don't go the way you want it. This is hopefully a chance to make a difference. Lets do all we can do as a group!!!!:toast:

All we need is the bill to get a little resistence in committee.

Frist has to have a military bill to the senate by Tues or Wed.

If the military bill goes to a vote in the 20 person committee it will face resistence in the senate. Frist does not want this. He wants to be able to say he crafted a perfect bipartisan military bill that flies through the senate. If his bill gets voted on in committe and comes out 9/11 (Dem/Rep) the dems will fight it in the senate. If it goes through committee with no vote and is uniformly backed, it will pass immediately and make him look really good.

Frist will likely try to add the gambling and abortion shit in committee and hope no one notices or that he can give the dems something in exchange. We need someone to notice and start a debate. Once a debate starts, they will likely be dropped. (Very hard to debate and rewrite bills in one or two days).

Reid and McConnell are our hopes. When they check in with their office at lunch tomorrow, we need them to hear that 1000 people called to hope they will help block all gambling bills and help save the ponies. WE want it on the front of thier mind.

Senate does not convene till 2PM today. Let's get our calls in so when these guys get to their offices today, it is the first thing they hear about - how the phone won't stop ringing.

No, I think they do whatever has the least resistance and makes themselves look good. Sean is right. Call and call again. If they sense groundswell support against something they are trying to do, they get real shaky. The reason he already truncated this bill and is trying to attach it is the bill won't fly and he will look like Kyl II. That is a sign of capitulation, weakness. Next step is to get him to realize the gambling lobby, however disorganized is vocal, and resents any legislation aimed at curtailing their recreation. Also support banking, banking committee. With the truncated version that is the biggest opposition. The banks vehemently oppose this, even moreso than us bettors, or poker players. And they have a powerful lobby.

You will not vote Republican, if any gambling legislation passes, any.

You will contribute to and actively support any opponent of Mr. Frist.

You are in contact with your state Senator voicing your extreme displeasure of having one of your favorite pursuits taken away.

You will talk to at least ten friends and family members, especially those of voting age, and will let your votes do the talking. Those people will find ten more people, and you and any Republican running this election will think being tied in with the president is a good thing.

Call, E-mail and call some more.

Best Wishes...OF :howdy:

not exactly the best attitude, especially considering the effort these guys are making. Don't agree with it, fine, but don't try to shoot holes in it either.

I just called Kennedy because he is mine and I think I can try to make headway. I would not stop talking so they are having someone call me back. I am courteous just determined. I am a lifelong Democrat (do not want to hear a thing on this men) so I figure I will spill my story to them and try HARD. We need everyone to help. Thanks. It matter.
