Just got back from New Orleans to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Was going to wait 2 years after Katrina to go back to my favorite city to party but broke down and went there. I stayed in the Hotel Monteleone which is 1 block off Bourbon Street.
The French Quarter is open for business and I would recommend to anyone that is thinking about going there to do it. Bourbon Street was rocking hard on Saturday night. Canal Street was pretty quiet Thursday night (after midnight) but it picked up for the weekend. Felt safe walking back to my hotel at 3 AM every night from the casino. Most of the restaurants are open and virtually all of the bars are open. I took a "misery tour" of the affected areas; that was a major downer. However, I did my part to help the rebuilding by spending money and visiting.
Won a little money at Harrahs. They stopped using the automatic shuffler on BJ, pay 3/2 for BJ and stand on soft 17. The Video Poker was good. Pretty good gambling.
Forget drinking hurricanes, the big drink I saw was the Hand Grenade, a melon drink with Grain Alcohol.
Would recommend New Orleans to all!
