Being a local resident of Las Vegas, I decided to check out the Las Vegas Hilton yesterday on a glorious 85 degree Sunday. I am happy to report that this venue is head and shoulders above anything else Vegas has to offer for your viewing pleasure, atmosphere and betting options.
When I entered the sportsbook from the back on the Paradise Road entrance @ 9:30am ESPN radio was already doing a remote and gladly giving away t-shirts and other goodies just for stopping by.
At 9:35am all the windows at the main sportsbook were filled with bettors 10 deep but were handling the influx with great speed and efficiency from my vantage point.
After, passing thru the main sportsbook, there are signs directing you to NFL Central in the Barry Manilow theatre. Once you get to the theatre, theres gals/ushers handing out flyers that lets you know what games will be on and where on the 11 different screens. On the middle screen, which is much larger than the other ten, is where the big game of the day is being displayed, in this case it was giants/eagles along with a great sound system. ALL the screens are huge and it was fantastic looking in on this giant matrix of 6 early games unfolding live right before your eyes. Food /Beer/soda is available and there are 1.00 hotdogs and 1.00 beer specials. Free Raffle giveaways were held before every commercial on the ny/phil game. You get one free ticket just for being there or 4 raffle tickets if you buy a Miller beer. There is 1000 seats and every seat is a good one. I would venture a guess that there was 400-450 in attendance yesterday so there was plenty of room to watch the action without feeling cramped. There is a sattelite book outside the theatre so you can make wagers without walking back to the main sportsbook. The crowd was great and the ups and downs, moans and groans, hoots and hollars were evident anytime a big play was made.
Some suggestions I would like to see, albeit minor ones, they are:
Raise the temp in the theatre a few degrees, kinda chilly and other fans felt the same.
As a smoker, put in a seperate smoking section --- currently, the entire theatre is non-smoking so you have to go into the casino to light up.
The sattelite book I mentioned above, outside the theatre is not very well identified, it says "Souvenirs", if my companion didn't point it out to me, I wouldn't have known it was a satellite sportsbook.
One Last point---I was very impressed that they put a line up just before the KC/DENVER overtime kicked off---something I never saw before. (KC plus 180---Den minus 210) ---
The LV Hilton is the best place to go in my opinion for the NFL. You can sense the sportsbook management are serious in bringing you the best experience if nfl football is your thing.
