This is why I don't cap baseball with the 'ERA' statistic...

MLB's official scoring has been bizarre this year...can anyone tell me why this would be an "earned run"???

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=560 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- R. Baldelli struck out swinging </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- D. Young safe at first on shortstop M. Tejada's throwing error </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- C. Crawford grounded into fielder's choice, D. Young out at second </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- C. Crawford stole second </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspscoretext>- T. Wigginton singled to right, C. Crawford scored </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- G. Norton grounded into fielder's choice, T. Wigginton out at second </TD></TR><TR><TD class=yspplaytext>- End of Inning (1 Run, 1 Hit, 1 Error) </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

It is obvious that the error "cost" a run...

This is why I DO NOT use ERA's when capping...EVER!!!!!

stats such as WHIP or even xERA's gauge a pitcher's productivity much better then a "biased" official scorers ERA stat....

any comments on this?

How you figure the error cost them the run...the guy that was safe on the error was out on the next batter.

If the guy that was safe on the error was not on base, the next batter would have been out.

I checked the live box score. It shows the run as being unearned.

they have changed the scoring.

I have seen stuff like this end up not getting corrected...they did a good job of going back and fixing it this time.
