If Notre dame runs the table, can they win the National Championship?

Had this argument with a buddy today.

I say NO WAY.

Only 2 teams have won the national championship since 1991 with 1 loss and both lost by a TD or less.

That loss was way to big to be forgotten (IMO)

If another team loses along the way & they run the table, I guarantee they will be there. The NCAA cares more about ratings compared to who might or might not belong there.

This discussion will come to a quick end when Michigan State spanks them this weekend anyway.

Let's say this is about Oklahoma......

grrrrrr don't get me started... now ou's defense looks far from an undefeated unit right now, what if the sooners get by texas in 3 weeks, the rest of the schedule is by no means easy street, but ou would be favored in the rest of its games... you think people are pissed off in soonerland now? i can't imagine the outcry if this comes to fruition, which i hope it does...

by the way ttinco, the replay of the game is on espnu right now, no way i'm watching that shit (don't wanna break my second t.v. in one week) but i think i recall you saying you hadn't seen the ending...:toast:

had the same discussion in the CFB thread.

They have an outside shot at the national championship. They of course must run the table, and they'll need help. Look at the schedule's of most of the top 10 teams.
OSU has to play Penn State, Iowa, MSU, and Michigan.
USC must play ASU, Oregon, Cal, and finish with ND and UCLA
Auburn gets their toughies at home, playing Florida and Georgia at home, and on the road vs. 'Bama
FLA has to play 'Bama, LSU at home, at Auburn, Georgia, and end at FSU.
Georgia has Tennessee, at FLA, at Auburn, then ends with Georgia Tech.
Michigan has to play at Minny, at Penn State, Iowa, and at Ohio State.

People better watch out for Virginia Tech- masters at choking in the late season, but they got GT at home, at BC, Clemson, and at Miami.

Everyone in the top 10 is capable of losing. WVU/Lousville, one will have an inside track at the title game, but one's going to knock out the other.
Keep in mind that the ACC and SEC top teams will have to play a 13th game in the title game. Could hurt or help title hopes.

So are ND's chances good? Definitely not. Is there still a chance? Yes, especially if they run the table and beat USC on the road, something no team has done since 2002 I believe. If USC is undefeated going into it, and ND beats them, could propel them to the championsihp game. As for me, I'm just hoping we run the table and get into a BCS bowl...

You think? I'll lay points with the best college coach in America with a team with revenge on their minds. Revenge from last week, and last year against MSU. Complete coaching mismatch, and after Smith let his team quit like little girls last year, I don't think he will have them ready for this one. Domers by 10. I had Michigan and MSU last week, but I think this is a great spot for Notre Dame.

That Michigan loss hurts. That Michigan whooping really hurts them especially at home I believe. They won't run the table any how I don't believe. But if they do they'll need alot of help to even get to the BIG game. Although they are a money maker for college football as far as tv audience . So they will have a little in their favor if they run the table.

I know it. Every single week they are on television. It's just amazing.

No, being slightly sarcastic.

But Brady Quinn is highly overrated..............as is the Irish.

Michigan flat out TOYED with them.

HUH? guys coached one season and has the same record after 15 games that the last coach at ND had. I guess Willingham must be the second best coach, where is he coaching now?
