never realized how much i missed doing this until i did this monday night
********************************************
As we all know, this time of year the scamdicappers come out in full force from under the rocks they hide under most of the year. While listening to the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">L.A.</st1:place></st1:City> affiliate for ESPN Radio I heard this ad during the Dan Patrick show:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
“World Champion Handicapper Walter Banks has a Bonus Play on tonight’s Monday Night Football game between the Jaguars and Steelers. He is a documented 14-4 on Monday Night Football last season. Walter has made his clients a huge amount of money. This is the smartest call you can make this year. Walter has been handicapping for over 20 years (remember this number for later). Call 888-33-Banks and win with Walter “Take it to the” Banks.”
<o:p></o:p>
First – let’s all go to Walter’s website:
<o:p></o:p>
http://www.walterbanks.com
<o:p></o:p>
As for his site – here is all the registration info you can access:
<o:p></o:p>
http://who.godaddy.com/whois.aspx?domain=walterbanks.com&prog_id=godaddy
<o:p></o:p>
So let me get this straight. This guy has been doing this for 15-20 years and he never got his own site until 7 MONTHS ago? How many handicappers do you know out there who have been in business for 15-20 years and ONLY got a website within the last 7 months?
<o:p></o:p>
The one thing we need to also keep in mind is that the same station that aired the ad for Banks ALSO ran ads for Joe Wiz. I am willing to bet some decent money this is ONE MORE of the MANY “names” Joe Wiz has invented to help sell HIS picks – seeing as how he has probably pissed off countless people with his underhanded practices
<o:p></o:p>
On his site, Walter tells us that he is (copied DIRECTLY from his site):
<o:p></o:p>
“Walter Banks is one of the most successful sports handicappers in the Nation. Known as the King of Last Vegas, Mr. Banks has owned the Vegas strip for the past 15 years where he wins close to 78% of the time. His unique approach to dealing with sports betting as an Investment and not gambling has made Walter Banks one of the most respected players in the world. He specializes in Big Information direct from the betting capitol of the world, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Las Vegas</st1:place></st1:City>. Mr. Banks' proven winning system has been enriching players for years and has elevated him to Super Star status among "people in the know.”<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
In what might be a typo – then again it might not, look and see what city Mr. Banks is the “King” of. Never heard of that city – but with all the bullshit he has here – I wouldn’t doubt that a city with that name would have HIM as its “King” (and for the record – if I got $.25 for EVERY scamdicapper who said they were “The King of……..” I would easily be worth more than the combined wealth of Bill Gates AND Warren Buffet – and it wouldn’t be close.
<o:p></o:p>
So off to make the call I go. I make the call @ 3:26P (all times PDT since I live in the PDT).. The phone is answered after a few rings. The woman is like most who work at these places – she sounds very young – as in she is doing this to help pay for college or is just out of school. The first thing she says ALSO is very familiar:
<o:p></o:p>
“Hello, sports, you calling for the free game?” to which I tell her I am (Side note here – the reason the phone is almost ALWAYS answered “Sports” is because all calls go to a main switchboard and this way the person answering the phone never has to worry about messing up and giving the wrong service name and making a mistake). She asks how I heard about them today and I tell her on the radio to which she asks “regular or satellite” and I tell her “regular”. She asks me for my name and number and after getting it tells me, “I’ll have one of our consultants get right back to you.”
<o:p></o:p>
A few minutes later, the phone rings.
<o:p></o:p>
The guy says his name is “Ron James” then tells me, “You can remember my name as the man with 2 first names (Right – as in “Dick Face”)”. I then tell him I have 2 first names, too (The fake name I gave him was 2 first names). He then asks if I have something to write stuff down with for he is going to give me his info once again. He tells me his name and then gives me a FREE PICK for the MNF game: UNDER 37 (and did he ever nail this one – for at least 50% of the callers – the other 50% got OVER 37 – this way he has at least some callers to call back Tuesday – not that this is ever done in the industry).
<o:p></o:p>
He tells me he has an opportunity for me to get involved with other information he has tonite as well as the rest of the week of his service. He then asks me what I do for a living – I lie once again and he tells me how he has a friend who does the same thing in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Florida</st1:place></st1:State>. He asks for my address so he can send me some sports skeds and all – and I give it to him – made up of course.
<o:p></o:p>
He then says: “You got my name written down, right” to which I tell him, “Yeah, Ron James – the man with 2 first names” and when he hears this he starts laughing uncontrollably for some unknown reason. He then gives me his phone number
<o:p></o:p>
866-622-2657
<o:p></o:p>
I ask if this is a direct line to him and he says it is but that if he is on the other line his secretary will answer the call (Riiiiiiiiiiiight – his secretary is the same for all sales losers there – the main switchboard one – the one who answers all phones)
<o:p></o:p>
He then says, “Let me explain what else we do here. We have other information we are using tonite on the side of the game as well as more games today thru Monday. For all first-time callers that I am offering – a trial week deal – and after that we can work some more or you can walk away with all of the profits you have made – no problem.” He tells me the cost is $99. I ask if there is a “money back guarantee.” He tells me he will give me any guarantee I want (yeah – cuz it is worthless) – “I am a man of my word. If I do something I stand up to it.”
<o:p></o:p>
He then starts to pile on the bullshit saying: “You have to understand something. We are on the radio. We are on radio shows. We’ve got contracts with ESPN and Fox Sports. We have 4 organizations all over the country (I think he meant “offices”) – <st1:State w:st="on">California</st1:State>, <st1:State w:st="on">New York</st1:State>, Vegas and <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Miami</st1:place></st1:City>.” He then really lays it on thick saying:
<o:p></o:p>
“Walter Banks has been doing this for 15 years (so how come the radio ad THEY WROTE AND PAID FOR said 20 years?). He (and try not to laugh too hard on these lines) is the 3rd LARGEST money mover in the country. We’ve grown to become the BIGGEST and largest service in the world – by far. He is the 3rd biggest money mover in the country so when it comes to moving money on games he is like in the top 3 (DUH – if he is one of the top 3!).” He then nearly puts me on the floor in tears saying, “and between you and I – I think he is #1 (would you expect him to say anything else!)”
<o:p></o:p>
He adds, “If you work with me you get Mr. Banks’ picks directly from me that is how it works. Honestly, the game I got (and he did say “got” instead of “have”) is a game my clients are paying me money for, anywhere between $500 on up just for my information (Ok – picture this – you are a LONG-TERM client of this guy – they charge you $500 for the pick – then you find out some newbie calls in and gets it for $99 – how PISSED you gonna be about this?). I am giving you the game for free when you come on board for a week and it will be included for no charge extra.”
<o:p></o:p>
He then says the $99 charge can be put on my credit card – but as you know – NO WAY I am done with him. I tell him I have a question and he says to go ahead, he is not in a rush to do this (RIGHT!).
<o:p></o:p>
I have to ask him what percentage has Walter been hitting over the years - keeping in mind it says 78% on the site. Ron tells me, “He’s been hitting I’d say a good solid 72%” (Just let that speak for itself – if there was any doubt these guys are clowns – this puts an end to it). I ask how many picks this entails – asking if it is a “few hundred or so”. Ron tells me it is a few hundred but it varies from year to year. I ask if it is around 300-400 and Ron tells me, “Nah, I don’t know, he doesn’t release – he’s a big time player. He doesn’t release picks every day – we only play when we have legitimate information.” He adds, “We are not degenerate gamblers – we are professional handicappers (again – I will let this statement speak for itself).” He adds, “we move on games we have information on and that is no bullshit (and he used that last word).”
<o:p></o:p>
I ask if this information is from “inside sources” and his reply is, “Yeah, it varies from inside sources to injuries to weather reports (let me get this straight – these guys are the ONLY ones with the weather report for the area – and what happens to games play in a dome?) to where the big, big money is moved on games.” He continues, “You know <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Las Vegas</st1:place></st1:City> casinos? You been there lately (I have and tell him so). There is a reason why it has grown so big – the public does not win at anything. Not at sports – not at tables – not at craps (isn’t craps played on a table?) not at anything at all (I guess he didn’t get a report from the sports books this weekend – they got KILLED!).
<o:p></o:p>
He tells me that when all the public loads up on 1 side – like tonite – they lose 99% of the time in certain situations. “I would say 99% of the time they lose – that is exactly what is taking place tonite. The public has no shot to win – but we are. This is our first big move of the season and if you want to make money sign up with me tonite.”
<o:p></o:p>
I then have to ask if he has inside information – stuff they have that NO ONE else has – and get ready to laugh at his reply: “Pretty much so – except out clients. We don’t give it out to the public. This is stuff you can’t gather by looking in the newspaper or online.” I ask if this means NO ONE else has it – like not even ESPN and he says, “No one else has it but me, people that work here, my boss and our clients (Again – I think this speaks for itself).” I then ask if really no one else but them has this and he says, “No one else has it. No one is bigger than Walter Banks. He is the biggest sports service in the country. The bottom line is there are sports services out there but they can’t touch us. They can’t do what Walter does – it’s impossible. He has been doing this for way too long. He is a genius (Again – laugh all you want – I sure did).”
<o:p></o:p>
Ron then gives me what might be the single biggest load of crap EVER said to me doing this: If it wasn’t for this guy I wouldn’t have the life I have now. I would still by making nothing and still be in the streets. That is basically where I was 3 years ago. (You are NOT going to believe this next line) I was on a waiting list – it took me 3 years to get into this company (I almost died laughing hearing this). I was doing other jobs. I have made more money here than humanly possible. I am grateful (Which then begs to ask if he is making so much why ANYONE would ever leave)
<o:p></o:p>
I ask if they are documented and I am told “not really – he doesn’t really like to let the public know his information so he really doesn’t do that (But take our word for it – we hit over 70% every year despite the fact it is IMPOSSIBLE to do). He lets me know how lucky I am for calling on this day more than any other because of their super strong play adding “I can tell you this is pretty much this is the closest thing to a guarantee that I can offer you. This is one of the strongest rated games the company has ever given out and we only have 5-10 of these a year. And believe me when I tell you we have more people on this game than we have ever had in the history of the company. We signed up 30,000 clients the past year (Anyone care to place a line on this being true?) so this game is important to us. You are going to know why we are #1 in 7 days.”

The bullshit continues to fly when he adds, “Walter Banks is the #3 money mover in the country – 1 of 3 major guys with us being #1 – and #1 in my eyes (Awwwwwwww – how sweet). I then say I heard on the ad Walter is a World Champion Handicapper so I ask what titles he has won. Believe it, or not, Ron can’t tell me saying, “Honestly I don’t know. I have never gotten into it with him. Honestly he is a very busy man – we don’t speak to him every day. He calls in once a day (wait – I thought you said you don’t talk to him every day?) gives us the information and he comes into the offices about once a month. He gives us some bonuses and stuff like that. There are certain things I can’t discuss over the phone (like how many lies you are telling me). You will get all that I’ve got.”

<o:p></o:p>
I then ask if there is a chance I could actually MEET Walter. Get ready for this reply: “Absolutely. No questions asked. He meets guys all the time. You can fly out to Vegas in 2 weeks and meet him then. You must realize he is used to dealing with guys who move over $100,000 a game – I am just trying to tell you that so you know what kind of people he works with but any client of mine can meet him. If things work out there is a chance you could talk to him in the next few weeks on the phone (Hello, Joe Wiz – why are you parading this Walter Banks guy around when we know you are 100% behind this).”
<o:p></o:p>
Ron keeps tossing B.S. my way saying: The money this guy spends on advertising is just unbelievable. He spends more in 1 year than I will make in 10 lifetimes (whatever). You heard us on ESPN Radio. We signed a 28-week contract with ESPN for the year. We are the only ones on it. We signed the contract before Howard Stern signed with SIRIUS. The contract is worth OVER $14 Million a year. ESPN only deals with big advertisers like Budweiser – big time companies” I ask if they have spots on ESPN TV and he says they do (Which is a FLAT OUT LIE – ESPN does NOT take ANY ads at all on TV for sports services – NONE – I know – hard to believe he lied to me). We are the biggest – why mess around with anything else. When you can get it all in one shot why mess with ‘rinky dink’ spots.”
<o:p></o:p>
He then asks for my credit card info which I give him (wonder if that number is a valid one – hmmmmm). He tells me it is a one time fee and that even if they wanted to charge my card for more in the future they could not without my approval (wanna bet they would try anyway?).
<o:p></o:p>
He tells me that once we hang up he will call me back in about 5-10 minutes with my plays and in the interim to call and get the most current lines available. He then adds one more bit of outrageousness: “Don’t EVER tell anyone you are working with us. I have clients moving well over $100,000 to $200,000 on the game. I’ve got the game bet for more than I have ever bet in my life.” He added that he has had some clients tell their books they are “working with Walter Banks and the books cut them off and refuse to take their plays forcing these guys to fly to Vegas every week (Just ponder this and realize how asinine this statement really is).
<o:p></o:p>
We chat a few seconds longer than hang up. I thought about sticking around and talking to the guy when he called back but I bailed and took the phone off the hook and left. I will give the guy credit for giving me the free pick w/o any hassles – but the rest he said is flat out incomprehensible – and the worst part of all this is how MANY people fall for this crap and believe it

Tell you one thing, anyone not doing the secret shopper game and got that under legit is signing up today. Lowest scoring game on MNF history. I was hoping you would not do this for some time as now nflplayer has a ton of new material. Too bad you could not tape this for quality control and post it. Sort of like the David tapes. Although not intended for comedy, like Stallone's Cobra, it was hilarious. I could not do it as I would start busting up a minute or so into the pitch. Great stuff.

Best Wishes...OF :howdy:

Nice read. I do like some of their sales rebuttals. They are pretty good telemarketers, which make it entertaining. Enjoyed reading this...

that is some funny shit. my college buddies and i use to get drunk and mess with these guys all the time. we would call them in the middle of the night and make up random shit about ourselves. it was pretty funny hearing all the bs these gus throw at you, but the real enjoyment would come at the end of the conversation when you tell these guys they are full of shit. most of them would go off on us and say some pretty mean shit.

they can call me at that number all they want. it is a pay phone close to my house - but NOT AT IT! they can call it 24/7 and NEVER get in touch with me

ONE TIME - when i started out - i made the fatal mistake of callign Dan Pastorini for a free pick. i got calls for like the next 3-5 YEARS from seemingly every scamdicapper office out there saying i gave them my number. wrong - dan sold it to them
