Duane 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Chapman

Duane Chapman is out on bail and A&E has wasting no time scheduling a "Dog: The Bounty Hunter" special covering the bounty hunter's recent arrest.

On Tuesday (Sept. 19) night at 10 p.m. ET, A&E will air "Dog: The Family Speaks," an hour-long special that the cable network says will feature "exclusive interviews offering a first hand account of the events leading to Dog, Leland and Tim's dramatic arrest stemming from their heroic capture of convicted rapist Andrew Luster in Mexico more than three years ago."

Duane Chapman, son Leland Chapman and unrelated fellow bounty hunter Tim Chapman were arrested on kidnapping charges last Thursday morning in Hawaii.

As A&E said, the charges against the Chapmans date back to 2003 when the bounty hunters went down to Mexico to capture Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, who was on the run for several months evading multiple counts of rape. Mexican authorities wanted Luster handed over to them, denied Chapman and his gang permission to leave the country, declared them fugitives from justice and tried to get them extradited to Mexico for sentencing.

Chapman's arrest last week came as he was shooting the fourth season of the wildly popular reality show focusing on Dog and his family. He posted $300,000 bail over the weekend, but he's still awaiting extradition to Mexico.

Duane 'Dog' Chapman Says Feds Sold Him Out to Mexico in Exchange for Drug Lord

Tuesday , September 19, 2006

Bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman says U.S. officials may have sold him out to Mexico in exchange for a convicted drug lord.

Chapman, the star of A&E's "Dog the Bounty Hunter," was arrested last week by U.S. marshals during an early morning raid on his Hawaii home on charges related to his 2003 capture of fugitive rapist Andrew Luster.

Mexico - where bounty hunting is illegal - claims Chapman jumped bail after being charged with illegally detaining Luster in June 2003.

But Dog and his family have suggested that he may have been nabbed as part of a prisoner exchange between U.S. and Mexican authorities - specifically, Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix, a Mexican drug lord who is alleged to have run the Tijuana drug cartel and is wanted in the U.S.

Felix was transferred into U.S. custody last week - two days before U.S. marshals took Chapman, son Leland and business partner Tim Chapman (no relation) into custody on orders from the Mexican authorities.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Chapman is barking up the wrong tree.

"There is no connection," DOJ spokesman Bryan Sierra told The Post yesterday. "That is just complete speculation from someone who wouldn't know."

A source close to the case says that the timing of Felix's extradition is curious.

"[Chapman] might in good faith think there's a connection, but no facts have been presented to his legal team at this point where we would make that assertion," Chapman's lawyer, Brook Hart, said yesterday.

"As a private citizen under his circumstances, we understand why he's thinking there might be a connection, but at this point, whether there is one or isn't one is not terribly important."

A new special about last week's arrest will air tonight (10 p.m.) on A&E.

Felix, who has a lengthy rap sheet - including charges ranging from dealing cocaine to murder - spent 10 years behind bars in a Mexican prison.

He was supposed to be released in 2004, but was held pending a final resolution of a U.S. extradition request.

Chapman, who is out on $300,000 bail, said on yesterday's "Today" show that if he goes to prison in Mexico, he will be killed by inmates avenging the thousands of fleeing felons he's brought to justice.

"I won't last two days," he said.

What a change of pace for the wife huh?

One day you want to kill the dog for his nicotine addiction, the next day you are wondering if he will get killed by mexicans.

Yeah but the do have a chemistry...I like these people, not my type usually...Dog looks like he's been sitting in a baking sun his entire life, how old is he? Probably older than he looks actually, besides that sun baked face...I will say 53.

Many times noticed how Dog has pictures up of George Bush and other pols. He is always singing the praises of the justice system and to follow all the laws. After this fiasco, I wonder if he will change his tune?

Isn't it ridiuclous this guy goes out and brings back the bad guys, some really dangerous criminals, and now our own govt turns him over to Mexico, on some ticky tack technicallity? A law that wasn't made for a real bounty hunter ...a law that was in place to deter vigilantism (if that is a word)

Should be starting everywhere right now.

Kind of ironic to see the justice department rat (okay, kind of) get ratted out to (traded with) Mexico.

Good old Republicans won't even hesitate to stab one of their own hot shots in the back. Go figure.

You're lucky...I couldn't take 15 minutes of the overhyped bs. Reminds me of a Geraldo sunken treasure show.
