Did the Musky Burger have Nebraska?

"Southern California formally complained that ABC-TV's Brent Musburger revealed privileged information in play-by-play commentary during Saturday's game against Nebraska. The university sent a letter to ESPN, which oversees sports programming on ABC, saying Musburger, with less than 10 minutes to play and the Trojans leading 21-10, began describing how USC quarterback John David Booty lets receivers know he has spotted a certain kind of coverage."

Compared to the abortion that was Oklahoma v. Oregon, I don't think USC has much to complain about...

I can see why teams might complain, you can tell Brent really does his homework and probably does so because he's wagering...you don't hear many other announcers this involved in the intricacies of what a team is doing like Brent...

Valid point...I have always wondered why major college teams and NFL teams for that matter don't have more personnel devoted to clock management, scouting, watching replays via tivo or network broadcasts, etc...

I'm not sure anyone loves calling a game better then Brent, that comes through loud and clear, he loves his gig, and who can blame him?

I really do think they have someone glued to the telecast. And what bothers me is that, at least I believe, there are far to many replays and reviews based on the announcers calling for them. As an example., "That play should definitely, absolutely be reviewed".

Bingo, about 4 or 5 seconds later a red flag is thrown or a whisle is blown. The telecast influencing the game..... horseshit IMO.

I agree with Jones, the announcers have in the past coaxed the red flag to come out...I'm noit sure it matters anymore because every damn close play is being scrutinized, but a few years back the announcers seemed to force the issue....I would be thinking "just shutup" and get to the next play.

Well, yes, they should watch it on mute...I don't agree with having the broadcast team (Tony K. for example) influence the decision, but especially in college you may have a hothead receiver adamant that he made the reception (and pushing the coach to challenge) when in face he caught it on the bounce...why not use all the tools available to you? The coaches and coordinators can call the play, qb can organize the huddle and set the line while the play clock runs down...others can look at the tape.
