Was there last night W.C.
Electric evening. One of the classiest individuals in sports. Hall of fame voters need to recognize his accomplishments and character. By the way, he has a couple good years left.

to think the Padres contemplated letting him go....I would have boycotted. He's put up his best stats in years. 479 saves and one out pitch...a change up.

The irony is they didn't re-sign him as much for his ability as they did as a PR move. Letting him go would've been a PR disaster. As for having one out pitch - he's also as predictable as clockwork with fastballs early in the count (always 1st pitch) anc changeups with 2 strikes.

He's one of two ML's I'd love to hit against, the other being Greg Maddux. I'm sure they'd both strike me out 9 out of 10 times but they wouldn't blow it by me.

Talk about PR Move...Barry Bonds is going to make it tough for the Giants to get rid of him...he's been on fire since the start of August. 42 years old and has more HR's, higher Slugging % and OB% than anyone on the Padres. Raised his batting average 50 points too. I heard he's been injecting wheaties

Hoffman's .895 percentage in converting save opportunities ranks No. 1 in the majors since the blown saves rules went into effect in 1988.

The vast majority of his saves occurred at Quallcomm, which was a modern day launching pad and made average players like Phil Nevin and Ryan Klesko appear like homerun hitters. He has no fastball.

More shit you don't know. The only thing overrated is your sense of self-worth.

Dodgers punked him Monday, guy also choked all star game away. He was uselss in 98 post season. Reason Sterling Hitchcock was left in. Wake me up when he makes his first big time save.

Agree with you Rail that his best days are behind him and that he has blown many saves and games the last few yrs....Pitcher with average stuff pitching in a pitchers park....That's what has impressed me, average stuff that has lasted so long and played at this level.

Still can't take his consistant numbers away but he definitely would not be my choice as a closer even in his best yrs.

Trevor is THE best closer in the game...that INCLUDES Mariano Rivera. Rivera has Steinbrenners bankroll and an incredible team of talent behind him. Hoffman has had the Padres...nuff said. I am a HUGE Padres fan, worked as a security guard on the field back at Jack Murphy, so I can say that about the Pads and get away with it.

P.S. Not saying Hoffman is the best closer in the history of the game, but he should DEFINITELY rank up there.

I got to see him pitch when I was in SD on a trip a long time ago, and got to see Hoffman come out to this...and he immediately became one of my favorite players.

The intro to Hell's Bells is one of the most badass intros ever. So tight.

Guy's a class act too...unselfishness/modesty are two qualities that my favorite players must have.

agree, you can't get any better than that intro....it was like they made that for a closer....bells start slow , music kicks in then explodes like a fastball.

I applaud him for his accomplishments. However to say he is better than Rivera is flat out stupid.

I guarantee ask all GM's & managers who they would pick of the two to close out a WS clinching game or big game in general. The answer would overwhelmingly be Rivera.

There is only one guy on Rivera's level and that is Eckersley....

Yeah the Dodgers punked him, the Dodgers also have choked away the division again and look who is ahead, the Padres.
