We reported it a week ago and are happy to confirm today that it is true. NROG received confirmation TODAY (9/25) that there is NO gambling legislation in the DOD bill and Sen Frist has no intention of acting on this legislation before elections. A source very close to Frist also told NROG today that the Senator may attempt to try something during the lame duck session but "..it doesn't look like this bill is going anywhere this year."

Press release here: http://www.saveonlinegaming.com/news/NROG_FRIST_092506.doc

We urge you all to join our fight today. Thousands of you have done so already but if we need to march into battle this November to stop Congress agian we will need tens of thousands more. NROG pledges to finally take this issue to the American people using mass media. We now have some time...please join us. www.saveonlinegaming.com

Very good news!

As you stated, all of us must continue the fight.............and one of the best ways possible is to call your senators!!!

Thanks NROG for the continued updates you bring to TheRX.

Here is what I believe: I think many of us contacting the offices in Washington and continuing to do so is important and great. We need to keep the word at the top of the list of "To Do" in all the forums.

BUT, I hope you guys don't start an advertising campaign on the radio or anything like that.... That, in my opinion, will focus the debate and draw even more attention to a situation that in reality, most Americans do not know or care about. By doing advertising on radio/paper or such you crystalize the issue and make awareness among people that don't care either way. If you ask the average American that does not participate in sports wagering: "Do you know or care much about people sports wagering with offshore businesses and sending/receiving money from such businesses?" They would say no, I don't care.

If you said: "Do you mind if the government bans it because of money laundering issues, terrorism......" They would say, sure, why not. I don't care so if that helps America, go right ahead.

That is just my take on it. Grassroots phoning and letters and such with your lobbying efforts are as good as it gets, imho. Advertising to the public is an awful idea, in my opinion. Maybe directed (focused) advertising with flyers and such to select and particular audiences as to, say, mobilize poker players or sports wagerers...that type of advertising I could understand.

Whatever you do, I know you are doing the very best you can. Thanks for your hard work and thanks for communicating with us.

Keep up the fight.

You shouldn't be declaring victory until the session is over.

Maybe you are being bs'ed by the staffers who want the calls to slow down?

I don't know. I hope you are right but I see no benefit of declaring it dead.

Yes - great work guys.

No reason to stop now.

Keep calling. Try to make it a once a week thing.

Call your senators. Call Frist. Call Reid.

At the very least, call, state your opinion about the bill and ask if there has been any update on it. (You have to ask about it or you seem like an idiot for calling over and over)

If they keep getting calls, it is unlikely they bring it up in Nov. If it falls into oblivion, it would not surprise me if he weasles it in.

Guys...please DO NOT take this release as victory. I believe it makes quite clear that this issue may be brought up again in November. NROG is in NO WAY claiming this is over...please don't let your guard down.

Ok guys. Point well taken. It is not hard to make a few calls. It is easy and REMEMBER, we are right in our fight. When you are on the phone remember that:

1. They have no right to tell us what to do in our own home
2. They cannot possibly stop it
3. Waste taxpayers money trying to stop it even know they cannot
4. Many other western civilizations counties have legalized gambling and profited by it....
5. Politician motives for this are wrong

and much much more.

Feel strong and confident on the phone and in the letters! We are right in our fight!!!

Good Work to NROG and all. Please lets keep calling because it is far from over!!!!!

Internet Gambling Legislation Dead For Now

Internet Gambling Legislation Dead For Now
written September 25, 2006
The National Right for Online Gaming (NROG) confirmed early today that Senator Bill Frist’s attempt to push through an online gambling ban before Congress breaks for elections has failed and no more action will be taken in the coming days. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to the Senator told NROG that “the efforts, including an attempt to attach to the DoD bill, have failed and he (Frist) will not be moving forward with gambling legislation before elections.” Congress will return for a “lame duck” session in mid-November where this issue may take center stage again. “The Senator has made Internet Gambling a priority before he exits the Senate and I will confirm that he is actively searching for a way to succeed.”
NROG Director of Development, Jay Bailey, said earlier today "If Senator Frist wishes to make this an issue then he should do what the House did in July and bring HR-4411 to the floor of the Senate for debate. Hiding legislation in other bills to further one’s own political agenda is not what our citizens deserve. These games in Washington must stop.”
Founded by businessmen Brian Jakusik and Bailey, the National Right for Online Gaming is a 501(c) non-profit focused on informing and educating the public, through mass media and marketing, about congressional attempts to take away the right to play poker, sports books and other casino games online.
Most of the organizations currently lobbying against the ban are working behind the scenes directly with the politicians. While NROG has been actively participating in these inside political battles, they believe, in light of the political unrest on this issue in recent months, its time for a more public approach. “There is no force greater than that of the American People. We must let them know what’s going on.” Bailey said.
"It’s unfortunate that there's only one side of the issue in the media right now." Jakusik said. "The politicians and the arrests of online gambling execs are all that people see. They're not getting a balanced view of the issue. Thankfully we have helped stop Frist this time, but you can be sure this is not over. We simply have to get the public active.”

Well guys, with the rollercoaster ride this legal situation has been I am skeptical about any report of good news however this is certainly worth passing on and is very encouraging. Too early to claim victory but it looks like that bastard Frist is meeting real resistance. I will be anxious to get a confirmation here at the Rx from Jay at NROG.

Up yours, Frist. :finger:

As always, thanks for the great work so far. Will you be sharing your strategy between now and the lame duck session with the Rx?

By the way, when DO we get to claim victory anyway? Is it only after this legislation fails again in the last senate session for 2006?

I agree we have not yet won the war. But we have won at least two battles now.

The next fight is going to be tougher. There is some bi-partisan support for legislation which calls for a simultaneous ban and study on internet gambling.

I'm just glad the NROG is in there fighting. Keep the momentum going Jay!
