As a longtime loyalist of Phil Steele and Northcoast (particularly of Power Sweep), I am sad to say today that I have had enough. In 10 years of reading his Power Sweep Newsletter, I have never read what I read this week in the latest newsletter:
First, the fact he now has his "own" plays and Northcoast plays is completely idiotic. The fact that an entire company cant come up with their best 6-7 plays on a Saturday after doing it for 26 years is just ridiculous. WTF is that about. Northcoast is quickly becoming a BIG JOKE.
I know Phil is a business man and a great marketer, however, I saw something posted in his newsletter that I have never seen before....a new spin on his horrible picks as of the last few years.
Saturday was an 11-3 day!!!!6 points away from a 15-0 Saturday!!!
Let me begin by saying that his late phones were either 3-3-1 or 4-2-1 depending on where you got the line at. That must've meant he went 8-0 on his top opinions. The problem is, I have never heard of him talking about his top opinions in September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never, never, never, have I seen this before in the past 10 years.....him throwing these top opinion records in with the late phone records. What a clown he is becoming. He'll mention top opinons on the bowl games but never in September. The fact he lumped 1 unit plays in with his late phone plays is a travesty! I've respected him so much until this year. He has really sucked picking games the last three seasons, and now he has two sets of plays "HIS" and NC'S. I also think he has really gotten too close to some of the off shore books in my opinion.
Oh ya, one final thing, his record on those coveted big 5* plays over the last three seasons is......................6 - 7 (46%) !!!!!! I started capping my own games a few years ago with much success and I would always hit his 5*'s hard. However, on his last few 5*'s, I disagreed yet still played them thinking he knew something I was overlooking. This past weekend he had a 5* on Arkansas (his most improved team of 06...the same team that is now 0-4 vs the number). I had Alabama ranked as one of my top 3 plays of the day.......It took nuts to fade him but that is exactly what I did and thank goodness I did!!! :puppy:

Winky-- 10 years ago after being scammed by the touts in college, I stumbled upon Northcoast. I fell in love instantly much like your friend and bragged about them to all of my friends, mainly because......well, because they were honest!

His college plays have always been solid, but his NFL plays are a joke. I quit playing his NFL games the year he decided to play Carolina every damn week thinking he was getting value. His top plays have historically always done well until the last few years. His big 5* plays were always money as well, until the last few years. I have a friend that bought his executive service for the last few seasons and this guy is a very large bettor and he is down hundreds of thousands on his late phones. He has gotten worse over the years and now with all of these different sets of plays has become a laughing stock in the gambling circles. He does provide great information in the newsletters, so you'd think he'd be able to formulate great picks...................no coincidence his winning percentage started going downhill when he got in bed with the offshore books. Your best bet is still his top weekly college late phone play. You can get it for $25 every Sat I think. That is the one play that usually does well every year. BOL.

I think that Phil Steele, 2006 version, is for suckers...are you listening NFLplayer...just another group of touts to send your hard-earned money to.
Back in the 80's he was pretty credible, but I believe scumbags are using his name for profit.

Back in the eighties, Phil, in my opinon was pretty much on his own...his staff then became larger and larger and there was more minipulating the customers in the 90's and beyond....just a touch of greed beginning to pour in. Poor management and expanding his selections was a turn for the worse. JMHO..

Sharp post VD. Ace, you are right also. Whats happening most likely in my proffesional opinion is that Phil has entered into partnerships with other people, which is solely related to advertising only. Due to the BoS meltdown, many people lost much and as a result had to come together to survive. Its more like coming together right now. There are some strange get togethers you will hear about in the coming times ahead for sure. Not that you will understand or anything like that.

Its all about the names, numbers and other what not that keep you tumbling in your place and sending your money offshore in the end.
The money you spend on 'gambling related" stuff is tremendous also.
Just ask Phil.

In the end to carry his weight he needed to expand his offerings to attract more people,so he can get more advertisising dollars as well as get back all the sheets he lost in the BoS fiasco.

All the heavyweights as well as many others suffered a tremendous blow and it is a mad scramble to survive and get that once easy, but taken for granted money back. Many hate each other, but need each other despratly to survive. If you are me, thats freakin Hilarious. I would be willing to speculate Phil doesn't even own that site anymore. He is just a front man now, if you ask me. Signs abound.

Am I laying it down for the boys and girls Brother VD.

Phil tries hard, but he's just not that good. Very tough to try to handicap over 50 college games every week and be good at it. That said, it still is an excellent newsletter as far as general information, and he does create nice middle opportunities because of his following.

He is way too much of a stat grinder and has absolutely no "feel" for what is going to happen. Just, not a good handicapper any longer.

For those that follow the Sports Reporter, things just aren't the same since Bomze left. This Bobby Smith is a joke....so much so he took his eamil off the web. Although last week they hit 3 out of 4 Best Bets in college, they had been bad enough to fade them on a a regular basis.

this periodical is really a joke since Winning Points took over.

I wish I remembered the name of the service, the one and only time i bought picks and never again, but late 90's, they went 1-5 the first six weeks on MNF, then i hear an add on the radio, 6-0 so far this year on MNF. I call them up, WTF, you guys arent 6-0 or are you giving me wrong picks. Oh we just use that for ads, so you are f**cking liars then?? click on their end.

Hes no different than the average degenerate on this board. His picks should hold no more weight than what you read here

Computers are no longer an advantage when coming up with picks. The edge is gone. If you have no feel for the game or can't get injury information that gives you an egde your just guessing.
