This boy scout for ESPN is on the air right now defending ESPN's coverage of the TO story yesterday. A couple columnists wrote articles bashing ESPN for cutting from regularly schduled programming to cover the TO story. Patrick is taking jabs back at these guys and standing up for the network.:pucking:

I think ESPN dropped the ball on the story yesterday and made the story alot bigger than what it was.

How can you say this was not a big story? What were they cutting into the 26th replay of Poker or Darts?

This was a HUGE story about one of the most controversial athelets of our time.

As much as I hate TO this was a big story. DP is totally right about this, what was ESPN supposed to do just pretend this didn't happen???? Imagine the potential if TO did come out and say he tried to commit suicide.

cool, I'm in Alexandria, lots of friends in Arlington

and even though it was a big story I don't think DP should be taking jabs at columnists who had an OPINON that it was exaggerated

Such stories confirm the mindset of the media is a complete joke, always has been, while MSNBC (A finanical based network in NYC) had a segment yesterday, which ended with how TO's availability to play or not would effect the betting line by 1-1 1/2 points...indeed important news in our "financially" based world.

If T.O. cuts his grass it becomes a story.

I don't know if ESPN went too far. It was crazy they had all day coverage about it. I don't know any other sports story recently that got that much attention.

They didn't jump to conclusions about him trying to commit suicide. The FACT was that they got a copy of the police report and all signs, including the admission from his stupid publicst, that he was depressed, consumed 35 pills, and he tried to harm himself. That was the facts given to the police by her.

So they had to run with that until he finally spoke about the incident.

So the fact that was T.O., who gets a lot of media, plus the fact that it was potentially a superstar athlete, tried to commit suicide, in the biggest and most popular sport in the country, all added up to huge coverage.

I dont see the big deal. ESPN is a sports network. TO is one of the biggest stars in sports. According to police reports he attempted suicide. How would this NOT constitute a big story worth of live coverage?

Isn't this why we have 845 different channels. Did people really get annoyed when ESPN cut away from a repeat of last years chearleading championships?

i was listening to the DP show today, and he said some things i think were not thaught out. He said Tim Cowlishaw said TO was minutes away from the hospital, and DP ask why TO's publisist didnt take him? Maybe because i would like to see any grown man pick up TO when he's unconcious and carry him to the car.

Just my take on the DP show today
