I dont see any reference. didnt read thouroughly though. So poker is A- OK? that to me, seems to indicate sports bettors are OK too.

but not OK for financial transactions. where there is a will there is a way.

but could checks I am trying to cash be confiscated by a bank? there are all sorts of other looney possibilities from this bill. just a nightmare the govt has created. a senseless nightmare.

there will be losers. you will have local prosecutors who dont understand the bill arresting people and trying them. probably some who are just gamblers. even if you win such a case defending yourself, it will cost a lot of dough for a lawyer and give you a great amount of stress. ahh, the land of the free :howdy:

The bill would leave out an additional provision of the House bill that would have clarified that a 1961 federal law banning interstate telephone betting also covers an array of online gambling.

to answer the questions -

Yes this affects poker as well as any other game where money is placed on the line and the outcome is determined by "primarily chance"

Dante yeah it's a great thing that isn't in, because that would target the gambler and not the book. They're referring to updating the Wire Act.

No, that won't happen. That's just ridiculous.

Maybe the sportsbooks will pay their players cash in FedEx envelopes. That'd be funny.

but seriously he's right, if the bankers can't comply there is a clause in there to allow them to get out of it scott free.

What will happen is nothing.

Frist got his bill and now he'll campaign on it. No one really wants to enforce it, has the money to enforce it, or could enforce it.

As far as I can tell, it only criminalize booking - I could be wrong, but that seems to be the case. 40,000,000 American gamble online. Hopefully I am not the first to do battle with this bill - those are pretty good odds. We do not have jail space or money to try people for betting. Sir - that trauma patient you were covering, let her die cause you put a grand on Ohio State and we gotta lock ya up...

In 270 banks will say we can't stop this give us an extension. Then that will happen again and again and again. Eventually some reasonable people will get into congress and amend it.

Most likely either banks or players will challenge the constitutionality - banks if they try to enforce it, players if they start arresting.

It is very important we get these moral based republicans out of office.

WE need to band together and do every thing we can to get these people voted out. WE need a very big publicity wave on gambling forums, but more importantly on facebook and my space. We need to encourage the 20 or 30 million 18-25 year old people on myspace who do not vote to vote. First we need to figure out exactly who we want voted out and then we need to get to work.

With the right people in office and a harsh WTO reaction, this could be overturned.

Anyone care to venture how Sportsbetting exchanges may be viewed? Would say Matchbook essentially make everyone a "bookie"??
