What do you think will be the response from the bettor community? What do you think it *should* be?

I admit I was not taking this one very seriously, but I would feel extremely threatened if they were trying to change the wire act. If that ever comes into play, there are some things that we can learn about our failed response to this act. While calling elected representatives is nice, they're not likely to change their mind based on a few hundred calls. And, even if they are swayed, legislation can be attached by a very small number of people onto a must pass bill. These people are likely to be religious rightists that will not be swayed in the least by people that don't mention "god hates..." when they call.

I believe that we made a grave mistake by not reacting in a way that would bring us media coverage. If people are on the news demonstrating in front of every last state capital building, an awareness of the problem will be brought into households across the US. Politicians would be VERY attentive to this kind of coverage, and I think it would stand the best chance of keeping the then widely recognized as controversial law from being passed as a non-germane subchapter.

It would also work towards our strengths as a community, because we as individuals are widely distributed, have a small number of "leaders" (forum managers here, 2+2, covers, eog, fezz, etc) that can coordinate between groups, and posess very strong lines of communication to relay that information. Lets use this small failure as a lesson about what doesn't work, so that we will be better equipped to react to any real threats down the road.
