Who's to say Nolan Ryan didn't do performance enhancers back in the early 90's? He had 261 wins at age 40...and finished with 320+ wins....If Ryan had finished with 260 wins and 255 losses , which was his record around age 40, would he have been thought of in the same light? I don't think so, his legend grew a whole lot in those last 5 years with TEXAS of all teams. the same TEXAS where Jose Canseco and Pudge and Juan and Raffy were all doing steroids.

How does he have his best 3 years hit walk ratio at age 42-43-44 a full 10% better than he was in the lighter hitting national league ?

That Rangers organization had a lot of juicers too...it makes sense.

:nopityA: he was a .500 pitcher for most of his amazing career, goes to Tex and finds the fountain of youth at age 41.

:lolBIG: it was just the advil.

He did have some heart trouble a couple of years after he finished pitching. But none of that means anything, just look at him. A man that looks like that didn't cheat.

He had his best 3 years at age 42-43-44, that is unique, his HW Ratio was like 10% better than any other years....And Texas was the MLB drug capitol back then...just an observation.

No because UNLIKE others he was VERY VERY VERY was good allready setting MANY MANY strikeout records in the 70's before the steroid ERA.

Many old-timers like him didn't need juice even in their late years: Carlton, Seaver, Blyleven etc.

i have no problem with the question, i just think it's silly to make a statement saying you know he did it, a little ridiculous imo...

11 over .500 in the 80's
12 games over .500 after age 41

His HW ratio for his career up to age 41 was over 1.286...

The next three seasons age 42-1.086 age 43 -1.034 age 44 - 1.006..in fairness though he walked much less batters the older he got...he did seem to get better after age 40 in many ways.

71 wins after age 40.

Nolan was a competitive cocksucker, do you really think he would allow someone to get the upper hand on him just because the stuck a needle in their ass?

My thought is that well over half of all players since the very early 80's has taken some form of "juice" at one point in their career and if you have ever taken it, you would surely agree that benefits one recieves from steroids is incredible and there would be no reason for an athlete not to take them.

nobody really thought it was cheating back then or even in the late 80's and early 90's. THey knew it wasn't illegal but there wasnt a rule against it.

His last years show 4 of his HIGHEST ERA's and he had NO consideration for any post season awards. he just never WON a lot earlier in his career tough to compare that as he was never on many winning teams. And look at all the Complete games earlier in his career compared to later (I know its a differant ERA). The relivers helped him extend a career as well.

He had a 2.91 ERA at age 44 and 3.44 at age 43...remember he came over from the weaker NL too, so HW ratio should have been higher but it wasn't.

He was 25-15 during the age 43-44, easily two of his best years...I really like Ryan just pointing out this ,after the Clemens stuff came out.

Why don't you use the same argument for Dennis Eckersley (HOF)

Athletic from 88 - 95 Cardinal from 96 - 98. Some great stats and some great team mates late in his career. Never been linked or mentioned here or anywhere else.
