I just talked to a manger from bet 365 about the whole gambling bill thing. At first she was really nice telling me that the only thing that has happened is that they can not accept call in bets now. Then I asked if things were going to change. She got nasty w/ me saying they can not comment on our law or our jurisdiction and that it was my responisibility to know my law. Her advice allthough not direct, sounded like to cash out. This sucks so bad.. Looks like offshore as we know it is about to end..

Degz- The thing that worries me about bet365 is the fact that they're a typical gutless British sportsbook operation that for some reason is afraid of the United States. They showed what a chicken shit outfit they are when they stopped taking phone bets from US customers. They didn't even have the class to tell their US customers about the phone betting restriction. I found out about it when I called and tried to make an in running bet on a soccer game. I suggested to the guy on the phone that they either post a notice on their website or send an email to their US customers letting them know about the phone betting restriction but they didn't.

My guess is that because bet365 has no balls they will drop US customers but I hope I'm wrong. It absolutely amazes me that some sportsbooks are actually paying attention to any US legislation. The United States has no jurisdiction whatsoever in how the offshore sportsbooks do business or who they do business with.

There are two groups of books.

There are the English/European/Australian books and there are the Caribbean books.

The English/European books have been around for years (50+ in some cases). Most of their business comes from shops they have where you can walk in and place a bet or from machines they have at many bars.

They have been legal all over the world for years.

The public companies are run by business executives - not bookies.

If you were these people and a great deal of your business was soccer and not US based, you too would pull out of the US rather than be fugitives. Many of these execs have a lot of business interests that require they be able to come to the US.

Now the Caribbean books all opened with the invent of the internet and targetted the US where booking has been illegal forever. Every one of these bookies knew the day they opened shop they were becoming US fugitives (If they did not know they knew as soon as JC went to jail) This group has not cared about the US laws for 10 years. They are bookies. They do not have a business that is legit in Europe or elsewhere. They explicitly set up to target the US. This group is not going anywhere.

We'll lose a few European outs - no big deal. If you care, get a new address.

When Pinny, Olympic, or WSEX folds, then I will say things changed.
