Time to take a trip across your nearest border and open up some bank accounts.

You want to make the biggest difference possible against the idiot U.S. politicians? Hit 'em where it hurts, in the pocket book.

Let them see a few hundred billion in bank deposits disappear from the U.S. economy. And I'm sure some people will figure out some tax advantages along with the ability to gamble their money how they choose.

I'm going to Citadel Commerce or HSBC for a Canadian account. The US has no jurisdiction, so fuck them and the horse they rode in on. And one of my sportingbet books just came out with their own ATM card, so they are not going anywhere because the card is available to only US citizens.

You cannot open a Mexican bank account without some immigration documentation and some references. Don't waste your time trying. I got one only after buying a house there and doing some gymnastics in getting the name on the account to be a trust, not myself. Bottom line if you aren't under one of the categories of residency there you aren't going to get an account through normal channels.

I'm taking a trip to Vancouver later this year. But, how difficult/easy is it to really do this, unless you plan on meeting some other requirements. I can't imagine it is just as simple as saying - I'm a US citizen, but I'd like a Canadian account.

Anyone with any Canadian bank experiences that can comment on this.

Actually, it is. I spoke directly to the Bank of Montreal a few weeks ago on behalf of a poster here looking to open a Canadian account.

(Bank of Montreal is national, btw.)

Check with the bank you're looking at first, as these are internal policies, not regulation-based.

And, by national, I'm guessing you mean they have a branch somewhere in that tiny city of Vancouver. That's really good news, if so. I may have to give this a try on my visit. Thanks for the info.

I got a US account using a very similar tactic. I believe all the major Canadian banks will give you an account using that method. You will need id, I had to use a passport to prove citizenship so they would not require my SS#. Also although interest income might be reportable to, it is not taxable by the IRS due to our tax treaty.

Phone before you go.

Let me clarify that comment. The US/Canada tax treaty makes tax payable in your country of residence.

You have a point. The U.S. would pressure the Harper gov't to follow suit. But in the mean time......
Just remember we get taxed to the tits up here.

Canada will be fine for years.

You have to understand other than Frist, Kyl, Leach, Goodlatte, no one gives a shit about gambling. It is unlikely we are gonna tell Canada what to do with online casinos.

If Canada does get pressured it will take years...

What is wrong with Caymen banks? Panama banks? Costa Rica Banks? You treat them likes OFFSHORE books and don't have too much in any one bank and you use the banks to transfer funds back and forth between books and use the banks to transfer $ back and forth to you and from you!?

Why won't that work?

Not the strength of Canadian banks but there are strong banks in the world outside of North America.....

Why? Won't? That? Work?

caymen banks are expensive (Like $2000 to set up) or at least they were 2 or 3 years ago when I looked.

I know nothing about CR and other banks. Personally, I would not feel secure with money in a CR bank - CR has almost no regulations. There is a reason most books do not bank in CR.
