About a month ago, I asked Neteller if I move to Canada, what I have to do to update my account. I was told I needed all sorts of stuff (Lease or home ownership, bank ownership, utilities, etc) and to fax it all to them and they would verify it.

Today I asked again and:

: Hi there, In light of the developing regulations in the United States, I am considering a move to Canada. If I move there and wish to update my address and banking info to the Bank of Montreal, what do I need to send to Neteller (Or what is the process?) Thanks
If you move to Canada, you would just need to set up a new NETELLER account, with your updated information.
Ok. Perfect. If I do that, can I transfer money from my US neteller account to my new one?
Yes if there are funds in your old account we can arrange to transfer the funds to your new account for you.
Ok. Thank you very much.

Sounds like Neteller is going to go out of their way to help those of us who may want to find an address and a foreign bank account. Looks like I will be spending some time skiing up north this winter. Anyone want to join me?

Its' not that easy to move here, if you're American.

Our countries have some stupid agreement where we don't let each other move here without a crapload of hoops. The easiest way is to get a company to sponsor you or marry a Canadian.

You don't have to be sponsored and have citizenship to "find" an address and a bank account. When I called Bank of Montreal, they told me I can open an account. I assure you I can find an address.

I plan to just sublet something or pay someone for a mailing address, but many many Americans buy and rent second homes in places like Whistler, so even if it is tough to live full time in Canada, it is not tough to live there enough to make neteller happy and if neteller is happy, I am happy.

You don't even need a Canadian address. I called them a few weeks ago to ask about this, for another poster. The woman told me an American mailing address is fine.

I am telling you that moving here permanently is very tough for Americans.

to live in Canada you need to be able/willing to speak french at all times. The Queen owns everything and there is no right to personal property in the American sense

They drive on the left side of the road, have an odd accent and use an incomprehensible french measuring system involving "metres" whatever that is

It is cold and snows year round with only a brief "warming period" over a couple of weeks in late July in which the ice turns to slush. Temperatures stay in the 20's and 30's even in mid July and August

Their money is worthless and tax is 90% of everything you earn

Still want to live there?

It would be better if they didnt block you from accessing your account in another country then you didnt have to move to Canada

Neteller doesnt get it, the US gov is trying to **** neteller why does neteller do all this stupid verification? after all of this shit they should relax, if a person gives you a canadian address that should be good enough who cares if he access his account for the US? Thats not part of the bill so **** it

Even if Neteller would settle for just a Canadian Bank, I'd like my address to be non US in case Neteller stops service to Americans - leave no holes.

Regarding having to live there - you can just dialin to a Canadian dialup (Earthlink has numbers in all major cities) whenever you access neteller... No biggie.

A few years ago we were thinking about buying a house in Canada. We passed because it was such a hassle. If i remember right you need to be "sponsored" and have a job lined up to start off. There are alot of other things needed as well. Even if you buy there you can not stay for more then 6 months and can only be a "temporary resident"..
I can't blame Canada as who would want to deal with us americans anyways..

your an idiot

here's the weather in toronto today:

http://www.weather.ca/weather/cities/can/Pages/CAON0696.htm

You'll note, in early October it is already below 20 degrees.

who the hell would want to live in a frozen wasteland like that?

So? It's 19 degrees in Oakland today. What's your point?

http://weathernetwork.com/weather/cities/usa/Pages/USCA0791.htm

You said we have two weeks of nice weather in July, that melt the slush. That's completely untrue.

We also do not have to be ready, willing and able to speak French; the exchange rate is currently 1.1095 - the lowest we've seen since the 70s - in large thanks to YOUR tanking dollar; the temperatures are routinely above 90 in the summer; the Queen doesn't own shit; we do not drive on the left side of the road; we are one of 180 countries using the metric system (guess who the odd man out is); and our tax rates are not 90%.

But, I guess knowing all of this, because I, uh, LIVE here, makes me an idiot by your standards.

Giddy up.

You're probably being facetious, but I have to say that since I moved in downtown Montreal, I'm amazed at how easy it is for someone to navigate the whole downtown core without ever having to speak or understand a word of French. West of St-Laurent blvd is an English-speaking city. East of it is 90% French, but only the most hardcore of anglo residents/tourists venture there to visit the Olympic Stadium.

Oh, we do drive on the left side on the road. When we're piss-drunk.
