thought it, just never said it. the inundation of WSOP and following stories of kiddies and youngsters on the news stealing milk money to pay for their habit had to contribute to the passage of this bill.

Whatever Rail. If you look at the co-sponsors of the bill, most if not all of them were from states that have some form of casino gambling.

It's all about the Benjamins

As an online gambling defendant, I have to agree at some point with this.

Not 100%, but he has a point.

Calvin Ayre appearing every freaking 5 minutes on online news didn't help much either... and when he appeared showing of in Forbes of him being a millionaire out of gambling was dumb as hell. Have you seen him lately on the news??

Any ways, whats done is done.... but relax, some people say we are near the end of online gambling..jajaja thats just none sense.

Online gambling is just like Cancer.. it came to stay... and both customers and operators will do something about it.

Can you imagine placing action again with some idiot on the street who 1) might not pay if you win... or 2) might kill you if you don't pay....

Online gambling is the shit!!!! :suomi:

The poker boom sure didn't help, at least in terms of keeping online gaming "high profile". Don't be so dismisive of the poker crowd though.....millions of pissed off poker players could be a valuable ally. Pointing fingers and second guessing what happened is pretty useless now anyway...

Basically, the religious right wants to dictate their beliefs to every American and isn't shy about using our political process to do it. The poker players are in the same boat we are, and are probably in worse shape. They're not the enemy--just remember who *is* the enemy when election day rolls around....

100% Correct

The milions of clowns that ran their credit card limits on the fvckin poker sites were the last straw. Perfect chance for this worthless government to throw its morbidly obese weight around and snuff out another vehicle out of its reach.

agree it was a major factor.

Luckily the poker industry seems to be taking this more seriously than anyone - party and stars are both closing down american accounts for now. And most of my lifer poker friends are moving to brick and mortar locations.

I agree!

I also agree with the statement about the ignorance of the Hillbilly Bodog guy and his stupid advertisements that shows how pathetic he really is. What I don't understand is why anyone would send his company any money at all. The guy is a moron and should shut the fudge up and go away. Pay your customers and go away. Nobody likes you except the few that kis$ your behind only because they are weak and need scumbag heros like you. Just go away.

true words. unfortunately we got lumped in with poker guys even though I've never ONCE visit an online casino in my 7 years of wagering on sports. F'n poker geeks flaunted their bracelets in vegas and now we pay. Not to mention half those crackers called their CC companies and said their CC was stolen and they never set up an account to an offshore poker site.

Maybe not the right place for this comment but here goes... I equally blame the offshore books for this mess. They wanted it all and refused to come to some compromise with the US Gov't. Let's face it...the Gov't wants the tax money...period! If offshores would have just set up some plan like 15% vig for US customers and shared 1/2 for the US Gov't this would be a non-issue. Instead they will lost 65%+ of their business and workers in countries like Costa Rica, Antigua, Neth-Antilles, etc will be out of jobs. It's all about greed....NOT just from the US Govt but on both sides!!! Everyone in the world pays tax on their bets whether it's UK, Austria, Turkey, etc and why shouldn't we? If you are in Vegas, that 10% vig is not just the casino's take...we all know that. But, if the offshores just could have come to some sort of agreement!!! Are you telling me that you would stop wagering if you were paying -115 or -112 on bets instead of -110? Of course NOT!!! just food for thought

I won't say that the offshore books are *completely* without blame, but most would love to pay whatever the US government wanted in exchange for the freedom to market to US based players.

Hate to break this to you but the DOJ has busted a couple of CEO's of offshore books lately, not poker sites. And I promise you that scamming sports bettors were doing charge backs to CC companies long before there were poker sites.

railbird, i don't think this ban will effect you. There will be ways around the ban for those that really want to wager on sports. it may even be easier then before for most of us.

The problem will be faced by poker players who need the average joe fish to learn the new ways of depositing money. If they don't it will beharder for us poker players to find good games.

but as someone who does alot of both, i am not at all worried about my chances of placing online sports wagers.

yeah, Ayre was a moron in that aspect imo. I read that article in Forbes and to me, the whole point was to show off. If I remember correctly, it stated in the article that internet gambling was a multi billion per year business with a lot of that coming from US customers, and the US gov't was not getting a penny in tax from it. I mean, why would you decide to grace the cover of a major financial publication in US and put more fire to the flame? I'm not blaming him for all this mess, but he is an attention whore and I freakin' hate Bodog with a passion.
