I decided to wait until the playoffs start to make some more baseball plays. So here it goes:

Take the Under 7 Minn/Oak Game #1 (Zito and Santana) +2 units

Sometimes you have two aces matched up and it looks like the under is a lock and then the score ends up being 10-9. It happens. But in this game, I think the under is a great play. The obvious has already been said in other posts (i.e. Zito and Santana have been great against opp; they are both coming off great outings; Santana pitches great at home; etc.) But here's the clincher for me. And it's very simple.

Great pitching beats great hitting almost EVERY time in the playoffs. And frankly, we don't have what I consider "great hitting" in this series. Yes, you can argue both teams have good offenses. But it's not good enough to over come these two arms.

Oak/Minn UNDER 7 (Even) +2 units (I might make it 3 before game time) BetCRIS

GL ALL!!!

I'm also looking hard at the OVER in the STL game. 7? This looks too good to be true. Carpenter has dead arm. He's cooked. Anyone else agree? Tulsa?

I'm convinced now that STL/SD will go OVER the 7. Carpenter is spent. He has carried the pitching load all season and has already pitched 221 INN. Peavy is no mystery to the Cards, so both team should get some runs in this one.

Adding STL/SD OVER 7 -125 BetCris 2 units
Also Adding 1 unit to the above UNDER bet in OAK/Minn game

Carpenter has a dead arm is way off. He was overused in last 2 starts. On 7 days rest today he was hitting 94-97 consistently which he had not done in like 2 years. LaRussa rolled the dice on Sunday on rotation and it worked. He rolled dice on resting Eck and Edmonds for as long as he could so they could get healthy. It paid off. LaRussa is pushing all the right buttons right now!

Kojak,

With all due respect, while my calling Carpenter a dead arm may be "off" as you put it, the play was the OVER. If not for a few defensive gems, SD would have scored at least 2 more runs to go over.

Dead arm is not measured by how hard the guy's throwing. As a former pitcher, I can tell you that the fastball is the easiest thing to throw when you have dead arm. If you use your legs, you can still bring velocity. Rather, you lose movement off the fast ball before you lose velocity.

Carpenter's arm is on fumes. He had a few great defensive plays save him and he was pitching to a mediocre offense at best.

But forgive me for being "way off" since your record on this board is so much more stellar.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

Carpenter still looked pretty sharp to me but I have to agree with you that Kojak's criticism is off base. First of all, it doesn't do any good to give your opinion after the game is over, that's 20/20 hindsight. Second, Kojak never has put up consistent winners here and was consistently posting bs lines (eg free half point at skybook) in football until several people called him out on that. He then pouted and quit as mod but is now back and is his criticizing of your call. Seems pretty lame to me.

Thanks man. I've been watching his picks and he's lame. Barely .500 and probably loses money on a regular basis.
