The overreaction in this forum is somewhat understandable since betting is obviously an important part of all of our lives. What people need to do however is to look at the CONTEXT of this all. This bill didn't pass as a standalone item, it got snuck in as a political favor. The bottom line is the government and its agencies don't really care about offshore gambling as much as some of us believe in here. It is priority number 45243 if you will. A few politicians who can't pass anything else of value go out and talk about how terrorists could be involved, how our children and families are at risk, etc, but they aren't exactly speaking for everyone.

The bottom line, as I have said countless times before, is these people have jobs to do. They have more work than they could ever get done so they pick and choose. A new law passing means they have to give it some time, but that's it. What has been causing problems are all these idiots who can't keep their mouth shut. While Nigel Payne and David Carruthers talked sensibly, they still should have been invisible. All the press releases stating how much money these businesses make and all the taunting they did to government officials was too much. The government could not stand by and admit they were not doing their jobs. Hence action has been taken and we are all worse off for it.

Now if we all just keep quiet, let the public companies say they will get out of the US, and then have everyone just go about our business we can get these government people off our backs. They will make one pass at doing something, realize its tough to do, then just quietly let it slide as long as no one brings up the point that they aren't doing their jobs. No matter what though, there will be ways to bet offshore and get your money there and back. There is zero doubt about that.

I don't think Pinny is going anywhere, and I sure hope Neteller doesn't run off US clients but if they do someone else will take their place.....

It's just part of the slow process toward regulation. One step at a time...

I think it's petty clear there will be no regulation. You don't try to destroy bussiness's that you want to regulate. I don't see anything from our government that indicates they want regulation.

Again, you have to remember that this is really small potatoes as far as the government and most polticians are concerned. And as far as the potential for regulation, I suggest you read up on Prohibition and consider how that worked out....last time I checked it was pretty easy to buy booze...

Apples and oranges. Gambling is looked upon as being way to "evil" to regulate. "Click your mouse lose your house". Right? They haven't been trying to regulate shit the past 10 years they have been trying to hurt the industry.

Good point. Not to mention these guys aren't just against online gambling, they hate gambling period. Every success makes them bolder. Expect efforts to do things such as possibly limiting or banning credit on casino floors. Probably efforts to ban having ATMs on casino floors as well. Maybe efforts to increase the reporting of cash, bringing down the $10k amount. Anything they can do to be pests to gambling. They can't ban it since gambling is controlled by the states, but they can do a lot to make things more difficult through banking and currency regulations.

Being quiet is no longer an option. Has not done a thing for us in over 60 years.

Until you have the vast majority of the public on your side, you keep quiet. The polls have been nice, but they have been far from scientific.

Bottom line is the online betting segment of society is about as big as the wacko religious right segment. The rest don't care much either way. Unless we can really get those that don't care to agree this is an important battle of rights we just don't have the backing to get what we want.

They tried that all already Bill. I was around for the ATM, no credit on the floor thing. I believe casino side they did lower the 10,000. Dont forget they wanted to tax the free lunch program too. Only the Army and Vegas get lunch free. At least the Army fights for this country was the argument.

They will never know how many people they brutalized with that one.

Being quiet is not an option to me. First chance I get, I AM ATTACKING.

The modern day ones have an agaenda. Depending on how the VOG's act, is how we will react.

Those I am dependent on are not stopping me either.
