Tonight, Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense faces Chilean Colo Colo squad in the first of a two game series in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, which is the second cup of importance in international south american club competition. Kinda like the UEFA cup is to the Champions League in Europe.

Alajuelense has been going through a very rough patch the last few months or so, ever since the new tournament here started and things dont look to get any easier tonight against one of the best teams in South America. Thus, it will be very difficult for LDA to come away tonight with a victory even though they are playing here at home. As I mentioned, Alajuela has REALLY struggled out of the gate, losing to Santos de Guapiles 1-2, then to Perez Zeledon 0-3, they lost to Heredia 0-2 (both of those at home), lost to Puntarenas 0-3 (at home) and then 0-2 in Puntarenas (these two games for the UNCAF tournament. Fans are asking for the resignation of the coach, two players were dismissed last week (one of them a usual starter on the national team). One of their backs, Panamenian Armando Gun is out which leaves a spot left open on the left back side, where a complete newbie might get the spot tonight. The team has displayed nothing, the players have come out and said they are ashamed of what has happened.
Add to that that Colo Colo is one of the premier teams in South America, probably the best Chile has to offer, and the news is that they are coming with a full squad (coach stayed in Chile because of health issues) and I think Alajuela has their hands full tonight.
